“We just had the best meal here! My partner and I had planned on going elsewhere but we got there after 8pm and didn't have a reservation, so the wait was going to be an hour. We walked over to Wm. Mulherin's Sons and they got us a table in about 15 minutes. We proceeded to have one of the best meals I've had in a while! Starters: the octopus was crispy but succulent and the focaccia was pillowy perfection! Cocktails were excellent. The sausage pizza had a wonderful mix of flavors and the crust!! ? I could have eaten the pizza crust on its own, honestly. Thick and chewy on the edges and perfectly done throughout. We also shared a seasonal pasta with ramps, morels, peas, and asparagus, and got the chocolate mousse cake and gelato for dessert, which were heavenly. “I started my experience at the valley parking gentleman in charge, he was friendly, kind and patient. I walked in and it seems that the excellence in customer service is their currency in this restaurant. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, the order in everything they do was excellent and even the wine selection they had was excellent. “This is a fabulous local restaurant and if I lived in the neighborhood I would be there at least twice a month. I was hosting some out-of-town visitors and we enjoyed between the three of us, two plates of pasta and a caprese salad and it was more than enough food and we also enjoyed our red and white BYOB wines. “This place has been on my list for some time and I was fortunate to visit at a downtime. Amongst a city full of pizza shops, Down North stands out among the greats. ENVIRONMENT The restaurant is relatively easy to find and seats no more than 5 or so people in the shop. The wait was a tad excessive which I credited to the food being "made with love". FOOD I love a good piece of focaccia! Another contributor commented that their pizza can be likened to focaccia which I would find to be incredibly accurate. The "Detroit" style was incredibly flavorful accompanied by a heaping of toppings(I settled on the "I'm A Boss"). I will admit the fries left a bit much to be desired but not enough to influence my rating. “In tonight again after some time away, sitting at the bar, Elvis the host offered a warm friendly greeting at the door. On Friday night Andy is bartending, friendly and great service. The location is excellent in the 1400 block of Chestnut in Center City Philadelphia. Just around the corner from mass transit, city hall and many things you will enjoy, It's connected to the W Hotel. The dining room is comfortable but the music is sometimes loud and generic like elevator music. On a Sunday morning Joseph G. was my server and he too was friendly and attentive, there were very few customers in. The menu is limited but you will find something for everyone. For Dinner on Friday I had Risotto with butternut squash, it was good, not strong flavor of the squash. On Saturday I enjoyed the meatballs, they were delicious and full of flavor. I have heard a number of guests mention how they look forward to coming to Philly end enjoying their meatballs. Multiple nights I enjoyed the TORTA AL CIOCCOLATO it is covered in chocolate ganache, comes with pistachio crumbles and pistachio gelato. This is in my opinion, the BEST dessert in Philadelphia. The staff from the door to the bar to the dining room and management is excellent, focused on your individual experience making every visit memorable and a special occasion.“

“Food is really good I got the fettuccine Alfredo, I got a small pizza half pep that they forgot to deliver with door dash. And a cake … my dasher went out of his way to go all the way back to the store which he didn’t have to do. But a hour later we received the pizza cold as ever but it was still good. I just wish the pizza store would have cooked us a fresh pizza since they forgot to give it to the dasher. But other then that I will be back in person for more food“

Also love the wine, particularly the Pinot Gris, and my sister enjoyed the Riesling. The pizza is delicious, love the mushroom pizza and they usually have some kind of yummy special. The buffalo wings have a great heat and are juicy with plenty of meat—I don’t even like wings but these are ones I crave. Lots of veggie options, too—salads, yummy fried artichoke app, and pizzas. “Great new interesting option at a local family run Pizza Shop. They have added Birria pizza to the selection, it's like "Sunday Dinner at Mom's on a slice" it is a very flavorful slow cooked pot roast type beef on pizza crust with excellent flavors and if your over 50 it is likely to take you on a journey back to Sunday dinner at home when you were growing up in the US. It is served with a unique au jus dipping gravy. I still find the dining room uncomfortable, the music and tv is always tuned for the staff not customers and the tables almost all rock and don't match up to each other or the booths well, you have to sit on cracks and such. Also the temperature in the dining room is always a comfortable for the kitchen staff even if you as a customer need gloves and a hat to sit and eat. Tables rarely get wiped. The staff is all pretty nice and the location is convenient to city hall, love park, and transit. I highly suggest you try this today! Take it to go!“

“Had a great experience at Viva at 2nd and Chestnut. We ordered a pizza to go and the husband and wife owners couldn’t have been nicer. When I got there to pick it up, he told me he made a second pizza because he thought the first one wasn’t round enough! So, he gave me both pizzas for the price of one! Such warm and friendly service. And, the pizza was amazing! As a native New Yorker, I’m very particular about pizza. This was the best I’ve had in Philadelphia. They also have a wide variety of alcohol in case you enjoy that stuff. They also have a huge selection of pizzas, even including vegan ones!
