“What a cool bar in downtown Calgary!! The drinks are delicious and the ambiance is so cozy with the couches & dim lighting.

I ordered the Father of Sax, all their drinks are works of art 🎷

“It was a perfect breakfast for the three of us before we dropped out daughter off at the airport. I had my traditional two eggs over easy with toast sausage and bacon. The two others had some wonderful eggs-benny. My eggs were perfect, the toast was perfect, the bacon was crispy, and the sausages were spicy and succulent, making for a delicious meal. Arlene was wonderful throughout the whole meal so thanks to her especially!“

“Two Of us had dinner at Bar Gigi the other night. I knew it was small but even smaller than I expected. Only 20 or so seats. I'm glad they're doing so well as evidenced by how solidly booked they are. It's very much a unique experience - the food was mostly outstanding in my opinion although I didn't love the chicken - one of the 3 “mains” on offer- the other two being pork loin and the daily special, a 12 oz steak with same jus as the chicken, and frites for $75. I think I'd stick to the smaller dishes if I were to go back as they're more interesting. What I found a little odd was that the plates on offer weren't particularly complimentary to each other - maybe it was what we ordered but there was no guidance from the wait staff on that aspect so we just ordered what looked appealing and unusual. Using udon noodles for the cacio e pepe was an interesting (and practical) choice. Great texture/ mouth feel and I think the noodles absorbed more sauce than a traditional pasta. The sauce was very pecorino forward, silky and salty/cheesy and when we added more pepper it was delicious. (I know not everyone likes that much pepper but it is an integral part of the dish) I'd certainly go back for the mussels, shell less served on brioche cubes in a “lick the plate” Calabrian chili based sauce, and the prawn toast , also served on brioche. We liked the charred cabbage flavour but the texture was a little too crunchy/raw for me. The plates were thoughtfully designed and presented. The service was casual, friendly and attentive but not intrusive. It was a rare memorable Calgary dining experience. The bill came to $220 with tip for 5 plates and 2 glasses of wine.“

“I ordered the dill pickle burger of the month for my mom and me through DoorDash, along with a side of poutine. The burger was incredibly tasty and cheesy—the fried pickles on top gave it the perfect extra pickle kick, which I especially loved as a big pickle fan. You really can’t go wrong with it! The poutine was just the right size, and I was impressed that a side portion still felt generous. There was plenty of gravy too, so no chance of it being dry.

Leopold’s is easily one of my favourite places to eat. I love that they always feature a new burger of the month, and their ever-changing menu of goodies keeps me coming back for more!“

“Service is always excellent. Unfortunately our tacos were left under the heat lamp on the pass through a bit long making the shells dry. That's not usual. The majority of the time the shells are perfect. The food was a 3 star this round versus the usual 5.“

“Visited The Sound Room for some drinks and light bites, such a cool experience! You descend into the basement and immediately feel that hidden speakeasy vibe. The aesthetic is modern Scandinavian with an eclectic vinyl touch that sets the perfect mood.

The cocktails were top-notch. I tried a tequila signature drink and the Shaft vodka shot cocktail, both absolutely delicious. The chicken kati roll was flavorful and perfectly balanced for a small bite.

A huge shoutout to Adam and Carly, the bartenders, super hospitable, great conversation, and spot-on recommendations. Definitely a spot I’ll be returning to!“

“Great atmosphere and great service. We stumbled at this wine bar looking for another place, but glad we went inside. Small cozy spot that nice and quiet to end the night with a glass of wine. The server explained the wines by glass to us and gave us a few options. Because we got there late, the kitchen was closed but they had desserts available. “The place is cozy, very well designed and clean.
The brunch menu is somehow limited, but the food was ok. I personally had avo toast & eggs. while the eggs were perfect, the bread had butter on (or oil ?) before the avocado which made it pretty heavy. Overall the other option were very much in the heavy side as well. Coffe was ok.
The reason for only 4 it's the service. Our server kept interrupting ( just wanting to be helpful?) and it made us feel a bit rushed (as in get the bill and leave), and they got one of the plates wrong (but that happens, no problem).
There is pay parking outside (free on Sundays) and I recommend you book (for groups of over 6, they apply a 20% gratuity).“

My friend and I can't seem to find a place that exudes the same quirky, mellow, and tasteful vibe that Magpie has and nor do we want to. As we were getting ready to leave I decided to order the Wor Won Ton soup with extra noodles, as soon as I got home I noticed that there was very little broth and both containers were filled with the ingredients, total disappointment with the soup guess it's better to eat in than take out.“

I don’t like Cara anymore because she has ruined my expectations for service anywhere going forward as anything else will be a disappointment. Highly recommend the guac and chips as it was quite tasty, as well as the Horchata and Pina Picante cider if you like a bit of spice. The burrito was pretty good but could use something refreshing (found out after that there was sauce/salsa available after I had almost finished the burrito). Overall a nice place for some good food and drinks. Worth a visit.“

Tucked in the basement of the shops at Marda Loop, it's definitely a place to go for a cocktail before (or after) exploring the other fantastic shops/restaurants in the area. I will say the music is loud, so if you're not into that, may not be your place. Our drinks were stellar - highly recommend their new Rose Heyyyy and we loved their Dirty Juan Marg. Will be back!“
