White Elephant Thai Cuisine Calgary is a place that looks like a storage building from the outside, but once inside, it is colorful and magical with fun decor. The food is good, with the tom yum soup delicious, the papaya salad perfect, and the pad kra pao nice. The Tom Kha chicken soup, ordered Thai spicy, was pleasantly spicy with all the other flavours adjusted to compliment the heat, offering an authentic Thai flavour. The red curry with chicken, basil stir fry, and coconut rice were all delicious. The shrimp tom yum was comforting and tangy, and the eggplant Thai basil was tasty and well-seasoned. The Thai longan iced tea was a nice sweet drink. Portions are generous and large for the price. Service is friendly, with a super patient and nice lady who even let customers get two orders of mango sticky rice to go after the restaurant was closed. The entrance is tucked away at the back, and from the outside it looks ordinary, so it is the true definition of “don’t judge a book by its cover.” It is a little hole in the wall place with amazing food almost as good as mom makes.
