“On my daily quest to visit as many BBQ joints as I can, I stopped in at Uncle Sam's. Full disclosure, I've eaten here multiple times, but it's been over a decade since my last visit. I was the first customer of the day and was greeted with a warm hello from several members of the staff. The dining area is accommodating for a large lunch crowd; however, the tables are arranged as one long table as if they are expecting a party of twenty. There are two sets of these types of tables. They do have booths, but I suspect these fill up fast. They let you know via a sign at the entrance that they do not have table service; you place your order at the counter. I ordered the pork plate with, of course, double fries. It didn't take any time for my order to be ready. My one real question, though: I was dining in, something I stated when I was asked, yet my order came out in a styrofoam container inside of a tied-up plastic bag, and I was then rung up at a counter. Weird; if this is how they serve dine-in customers, that's kind of lazy, but I got the feeling when I saw the sign about no table service that the staff might be trained to be lazy.

On to the food—after all, that's what I came for—when I sat down and opened my styrofoam container, the meat was totally covered by my fries. I had to put most in the top part of the container just to get to the pork. Once there, the pork was tender and juicy and the sauce was really good. They chop the meat into as fine of a cut as you can get. Every BBQ joint has their own sauce that fits their style of cooking. Uncle Sam's sauce is good for the way Uncle Sam's cooks their meats; they get five stars for the sauce.

Normally I'm not a fan of crinkle fries with BBQ, but Uncle Sam's makes it work. I poured the BBQ sauce over them as usual and they were fantastic. Cooked to perfection. The place is decorated nicely with stock car legends, The Alabama Gang, who called Hueytown home. It's always great to dine with pictures of your heroes on the wall.

Despite the weird seating arrangements, the styrofoam trays, and the lack of table service, this place has great food. These quirks will not stop me from eating here again soon.“

“This is another one of those spots that you would never know unless you were looking for it. On the corner in Hueytown. Nothing fancy or flashy about it. Just good ol bbq. This place is like a backyard bbq just indoors. The food is excellent. The burgers, the hotdogs, the sides and the desserts are amazing. No gimmicks just great food. I will definitely come back.“

“I ordered my food out on a night there was a lot of sports teams in town and had to wait a little extra for it to be made(no fault of the restaurant as 15 orders cane in at the same time) but it was worth the wait! The loaded cajun ranch fries were the best I've had! I ordered a spinach salad as well and it was absolutely delicious. When I called the person was nice and willing to let me know what's going on.
Next time I'm in town Ill have to go in and eat.“
