“This was not a frozen preformed Burger. They will cook your Burger to your preferred temperature, and it was done just perfect. The size of the Jumbo Burger was a half pound, and it was very filling. The Onion Rings were excellent and the Chocolate Shake was just right on the Chocolate. Great place to stop and get a good Burger.“

“We love Marty’s GM SO much! We moved away from the area years ago but still try to plan our trips to Birmingham around a trip to Marty’s! We always get the Chicken Bacon Ranch Egg Rolls, Goat Popper Burger, and French Fries. And then depending on what they have in the frozen machine, a frozen margarita or a bushwacker. Everything is always perfectly cooked and delicious! Honestly , it’s wild how consistent the food has been over the years. Absolutely fantastic every time we go.“

They were out of the dessert but they offered to make half a pan for us and said they will have it ready the next day at their next location at Shelby Baptist. “Family and I had some time to to explore Birmingham before our flight home so we drove aimlessly around and first stumbled across Gatos & Beans (I did a complete review on that wonderful location). Emily recommended Joyland for a bite to eat as her establishment mainly served coffee and snacks.

Oh my GOSH, what a positive, upbeat, and tasty experience.

Joyland primarily serves Breakfast, Burgers, Hotdogs, drinks (they also have an impressively stocked bar,) and desserts.

The atmosphere is upbeat, friendly and inclusive. It gives off more of an eatery vibe than bar.

The menu has Gluten Free, and Vegetarian options. (I didn’t ask about vegan, sorry). Their crinkle cut fries are GF, crispy, and tasty.

The Cashier/server who helped us was Garret, Jake the General Manager also helped keep our order super fast and smooth.

When I again visit Birmingham, Joyland is already on my list of things to do.

“I absolutely love this place! literally, this place is absolutely phenomenal. there's two separate bartenders that are there on any given morning... both these girls are absolutely fantastic. both of them are really really pretty and they've got amazing attitudes, they've always got a smile on their face and what's amazing is, you can walk in on a Monday morning like this morning, knowing it's Monday and it's overcast and those two girls were laughing and cutting up and smiling and it just put you in a really really really amazing mood to start your day. I'm of the belief that if we can be around people that can brighten our day, then we definitely should. these girls start my morning off on a positive foot. I don't feel like a customer, honestly I try to bring them either energy drinks or donuts and then eat the world's greatest biscuits and gravy, that gravy is absolutely amazing, and there's always a smile on their face, it's always an amazing time and I look forward to each time I come which is about 3 or 4 days a week. the stores always really clean, and it smells amazing. the restrooms are always in great condition, sitting at the bars amazing, there's never food left around or sitting around, they're quick to clean up the tables, these girls really run the show, and everybody else in the background does an amazing job too. really thankful for this place, and I'm really glad that I get to be a part of the BBB family! “This past Saturday, I treated myself to a me date a day dedicated entirely to myself. After indulging in a relaxing one-hour massage, I found myself absolutely starving. Wanting to try something new, I continued my exploration of Homewood’s restaurant scene and landed on The Battery. I met my aunt there for lunch, and as soon as we arrived, I knew we were in for a treat. The place was packed inside and out which is usually a great sign. After about a 15 minute wait, we were seated. The interior had a modern, inviting atmosphere, and the service was excellent. Our waiter was incredibly kind, answered all of my questions, and I never once had to ask for a refill. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was impressively quick, and every dish arrived hot. Appetizers Buffalo Wings – The wings were well-sauced and smoked to perfection, with the meat falling off the bone effortlessly. However, the biggest letdown was the lack of seasoning. While the smoky flavor was great, the wings themselves needed more depth. 7.9/10 (With proper seasoning, this would easily be in the high 8s or even a 9). Queso & Chips – The chips were fresh, crunchy, and unseasoned but still did the job. The queso had potential, but it lacked the bold flavors needed to truly stand out. It wasn’t bad, but it could have been much better. 6/10 Entrées & Sides Wedge Salad – The salad itself was solid, but the bacon was a miss. It had an overpowering liquid smoke taste, leaving a strange aftertaste and smell. 7/10 Fries – These were outstanding hot, crispy, and well-seasoned. I also appreciated the variety of cuts and shapes. 8.5/10 Smash Burger – A well-executed smash burger with that signature crispy edge and juicy interior. However, the meat itself wasn’t seasoned, which held it back from being exceptional. 8/10 Final Thoughts Overall, The Battery was a great experience, and I’d happily return. The biggest downside was the lack of seasoning across multiple dishes. If they improved that, their food would easily score even higher. That said, I still highly recommend trying this place. Final Rating: 8/10 Service: 10/10 – Absolutely fantastic staff! Would I go back? Without a doubt.“

“I picked up my take out order. I told the staff I needed the strawberry shake. I was told a couple minutes later it was in the bag. I checked and I could see the top of the cup so I left. Got home and it was vanilla. My husband ordered the hot ones burger and there was a quarter size of sauce in the middle of the top bun. His burger was basically dry. My bacon burger was cooked too long, part of it was not edible because it was hard as a rock. This was my first time coming here and I don't plan on returning.“

“Had a great meal: I had the three-hander and my friend and I split an order of half fries half onion petals. This was the way to go as both the fries and onion petals are great. The burger was also excellent. It does go to a bit loud in there, the acoustics seem a bit off, but other than that we really enjoyed the atmosphere. “I love coming to Slutty Vegan. I used to go to the ones in Atlanta (Ralph David and Edgewood), but I've moved to Alabama about 10 months ago. I loved when I realised that they had a shop here in Birmingham.

Their slutty fries is amazing with the spicy agave mustard or hunny mustard. 9/10

Can't go wrong with the fussy hussy if you're looking for the normal toppings that come on a burger. 8/10

When I get a burger from here, though, I like the one night stand because I like the v. bacon. 9/10

The boujee heaux is their fried cauliflower wings. I've only ever tried the 10pc garlic parm w. fries, but it's amazing. 9/10

I've had the banana pudding before. I don't get it anymore, but it's still delicious. I like my banana pudding a little more solidified, whether it is the breading/crumbles, or actual bananas. This does mimic a legitimate pudding though. 9/10

The hollywood hooker is a good v. philly. I don't normally eat philly cheesesteaks that often, so it's almost a bit much for me due to the amount of stuff in it, but I can still appreciate the flavour profiles, the necessary toppings to make it a philly, and the ability for Slutty Vegan to make a tasty version of the classic sandwich. 9/10

I've only had the project chik one time, and that was when it first came out. At that time, it was a limited time item. I didn't like this sandwich as much, but that's because it wasn't saucy. I think they've added ranch or mayo, but it wasn't enough, so you can simply get extra ranch/mayo. 6.5/10

The sweet potato pie is delicious. 10/10

The hooker fries are delicious. Arguably the best item on the menu for me. If there's any legitimate critique I have of Slutty Vegan, it's that the buns get soggy really quickly from the burger, so it can feel like eating the toppings and patty with a mushy bun sometimes. So, I mostly get the hooker fries when I visit because there is no bun to worry about, and it gives me the same toppings as the philly cheesesteak, except I don't have to worry about being overwhelmed with everything that's inside of the hoagie and trying to keep everything pieced together. The hooker fries IS the hollywood hooker, just with fries instead of a hoagie. It's pretty much loaded fries, but it has to be some of the best loaded fries I've had. 11/10

I do miss the big dawg though. I love bratwurst, so SV's spin on this was amazing. Add this back to the menu and I'd be back probably two to three times a week continuously.“

But, do try it. Patty's are handmade. Fresh beef. Nice large burger. Prices a little steep. Cheeseburger was $10,99 and basket of fries $4.50. I did not get the sauce that comes on the burger. “Hero Doughnuts is a cool spot right across from Railroad Park. I stopped in yesterday for a few doughnuts and they were absolutely delicious—the blueberry doughnut was one of the best I’ve ever had.
