La Estrella Bakery is a very good bakery at downtown with the best bread around, very good quality and prices. The tortillas are so good—soft, slightly flakey when heated up, with nice layers. The donut twists are soo good, slightly bouncy and fresh in the morning, and the glazed donut is considered the best in Tucson. The churros are crunchy with a nice filling, and pair well with lattes that aren’t too sweet; the matcha is a little earthy but pairs super well with the strawberry flavor. The conchas are some of the best ever had, and the little piggy sweet bread and cookies were a huge hit. The food can be on the sweet side, but everything is fresh and delicious. The place is super clean with smiling and friendly service, and prices are awesome—two chocolate conchas and two raspberry pound cake slices with coconut were $5.00 flat. The pan dulce is soft and crumbly, not too sweet, not too bland, and authentic. A little pricey per piece, but worth the price. Never been disappointed after leaving, and the empanadas and donuts are the best.
