“This little spot is a hive of activity. Second Valentine's Day for my partner at this cracker of a restaurant. They have the sweetest staff, vibrant atmosphere. Serving the freshest, yummiest food. I have an iodine allergy (shell fish) the staff were excellent in keeping that in mind when ordering. Definitely worth repeat visits.Dietary restrictions: Allergies“

“I've come here quite a few times, and it is consistently one of my favourite places in Vancouver. The food is always phenomenal and--while I definitely have favourites ( I love the Yuzu Kara-Kara Age bowl) -- I always feel compelled to try something new here, because every item on their menu has that signature feel to it.The service is amazing (though sometimes they definitely seem busy), the staff are always incredibly friendly and all seem to enjoy working there. The atmosphere is super energetic in the restaurant.Dietary restrictions: They asked about allergies before ordering, and there appears to be a wide variety of options on the menu. If you are pescatarian there are more than enough options to choose from!“

“Love the little plates and 3 for $15 appetizer choice! You get to taste a lil bit of everything. It’s always quite packed here and hard to get a spot, but the food is really great! Star of the show was the daifuku strawberry dessert with green tea ice cream, yum!“

“Hands down, best izakaya place in Vancouver. Love the cozy atmosphere! It absolutely reminds me of the Izakayas in Roppongi Hills and the food has all the authentic ingredients used in Japan with consistent quality and taste. The only thing is the cost has gone up after COVID but it’s understandable because of the negative setbacks it had on businesses! I would recommend coming here for a date night or party; overall, a great and fun place to go to.“

“It was a loved one's celebration dinner and they picked this spot to visit. I hadn't heard of this place before but we found out they're part of the Zakkushi group. There was a large variety of food and drinks! We enjoyed many snacks alongside some beer (Sapporo) & sake (but forgot to note down the name of the sake - oops). The restaurant is decorated with a lot of sake bottles and even the washrooms had a lot of sake labels or bottle caps. It was a neat touch. We received great & attentive service and the vibe is energetic but cozy. The food was a little slow to come out but it was quite tasty and fresh so we didn't mind too much! Some of our favourites were the Uni miso hotate ($18), beef yuke ($18.50), ikayaki ($18), uzura maki or quail eggs wrapped in sliced pork skewer ($4.10), and the negitongue skewer ($4.70). The food is more on the pricy side since they're also smaller portions, but it's a nice spot for a special occasion!“

“We sat in the upstairs room on the floor and had a great experience. The cocktails were yummy and the food was delicious. Really enjoyed the beef sukiyaki hotpot and the potato-mochi. They also have different daily specials you can try. Would definitely go again!“

“Staff were friendly. Food was tasty and creative. Wide variety of seating styles (table, bar, and horigotatsu). We enjoyed the sake flight, some seared salmon, and a plate of very unctuous udon.Vegetarian options: So far the Guu's I've been to on Denman and Davie have not had stellar vegetarian options. Denman specializes in yakitori which isn't nearly as fun without meat, and Davie highlighted beef and seafood. Some dishes are marked for adaptation (e.g. beef udon sans beef) so the vegetariansin your party won't go hungry, but their dining experience may be qualitatively different.“

“??Chicken liver: Roasted just right, slightly cooked but not fishy at all, the liver has a dense texture and a rich charcoal smoke flavor, one bite is amazing!??Chicken heart: It is also roasted very tender, not tough at all, and tastes the same as liver ?Premium beef tongue: This one is slightly chewy, roasted a bit too chewy and not chewy.??Quail egg pork: Very fragrant but a little oily, you can add some salt ?Chicken ball: Just average, the teriyaki juice is quite delicious but it is not coated on the meatballs and can only be eaten as a dip“

“Katsu Sando was unreal. Such great flavours and the bread was top quality. Curry curly fries a great side piece to that awesome sando. Buy a shirt!!! One of the most comfortable shirts I own and get tons of compliments. They’re my dogz for life and I’ll return soon to sample some more of the menu.“

“Great place for sushi. Would recommend making a booking as it was pretty busy on a Wednesday evening. The aburi sushi platter was great! The double spicy tuna roll was also really good. Service was good and overall a great sushi experience.“

“Just went to this restaurant earlier today. We went with my family to try something new, and we were craving Japanese cuisine. Food was good. The sashimi salad was fairly large, with diced tuna, partially grilled salmon (my favourite), and scallops. Great portion and taste for $15.80! The grilled salmon bento box tasted good. 2 pieces of grilled salmon were provided, garnishes, a veggie salad with dressing, rice, and a potato salad. Great portion for only $15.80. The grilled mackerel bento box, like the others, was cheap and large ($14). Everything was the same between the two bento boxes except the fish served. I found the mackerel to be a little over salted... rice, salads, and garnishes were all decent. Miso soups were served with the bento boxes, also a bit too salty for me. Still drinkable, with an abundance of tofu, seaweed, and green onion. Service was good, immediately provided us with menus and water/tea right as we were seated. Food took about 15-20 minutes to come. The atmosphere was nice with quiet music playing in the background. If you're someone that can't walk very well up/down stairs, you have to walk up two flights of stairs to reach the seating area. Overall, good place for a meal on a cold rainy day! May come back again with friends to bring“

“I have been coming here for many years now with friends, it's a great place to have some beer and sake, along with their signature skewers and a wide range of sake and sashimi. It can get really busy at times and service may be a tad bit slower but the quality of food is amazing. The price I find is fair being in the restuarant industry and how covid may have affected it. I can honestly say I will continue to come to this establishment cause the foods good and the restaurants been running for 20 years +!“
