“Visiting Vancouver as the last leg of a cross-country trip and stumbled across Oku Izakaya. Even though the restaurant fully booked online we were swiftly seated. Great range of hot and cold Japanese food. Specifically the hot potatoes balls - would definitely go back for those alone!“

“Back in Vancouver for a visit, I used to come here 20 years ago and it hasn't changed. I think what makes it so special isn't a flash interior or the most cutting edge dishes (although they certainly felt that way 20 years ago) but the feeling of being welcome, of having the cooks hand you your dishes over the counter with a smile, and of the servers so sweet you want to ask them where they get their nails done and be friends with them. It's an experience not to be missed and one you will miss instantly when you come back in twenty years.“

“First time for us, attended a private function. Food was delicious and filling. The service was outstanding and extremely attentive. They had a vast array of sake and after ordering the sake flight (sampler tray), we found a few options that we really liked and ordered a couple of bottles. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious. There was an assortment of dishes that we tried that were on par with many of the high end restaurants, such as the egg omelet with crab ankake and the BBQ eel Unagi rice bowl. Street parking was easy to find. We’d definitely come back to Hashigo Sake Bar.“

“Delicious and fresh food! We mainly ordered from the specials, which weren't large but were delicious. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful when we mentioned allergies and dietary restrictions. Plenty of vegetarian options. The service was top tier. Sitting outside was quite pleasant on a cool summer evening.“

“Their lunch specials are affordable and tasty. The service for lunch time on the weekday wasn’t like dinner. There’s only one staff on the dining area and she always disappears. No water refills at all until we asked for it at the very end. No big deal since the lunch was so cheap and we didn’t expect any service. Still going back for food. Recommend.“
