“We were seated at the bar which I loved. There is something about an open kitchen and watching people work who are clearly so passionate about what they do. We had the radicchio menu and it was incredible! We started with the scallops, too and added in the wagyu beef alone with the wine pairing and each course just got better and better. The wine pairings were perfect. The staff was kind and knowledgeable and really made the whole night perfect. I will certainly go back as well as check out Chef Andrea’s other places. Thank you for the best food experience I’ve had in years.“

“Recently found the perfect spot for a late-night bite! This Japanese restaurant offers a $25 late-night special where you can choose three small dishes—a great deal! There are plenty of Japanese dishes to pick from, and it’s hard not to order a little extra. The sashimi is especially impressive, with thick, fresh slices that are so satisfying, and the sushi is also fantastic.????

My top recommendation is definitely the fried squid—perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. You’ll keep reaching for more! Plus, the server was not only super friendly and attentive but also very charming, taking care of every little detail and making us feel so welcome. “Stopped in here to seek refuge from a mid-day sun shower and so happy we did.

Tucked away in a less than inspiring alley, you enter to feel the warmth of a cozy little tasting room. Red brink line the walls and soft dim lights bathe the long spare room. The counter is accented with an array of colorful piggy banks which serve as placeholders for table reservations, very cute.

Our hostess was super friendly, and helpful in serving up two wine flight trios. The Proyecto granacha we had was the standout but we were happy to try all of them.

We lingered here for quite a while before continuing our walk through Gastown. Recommended if you want to break your day of exploring with a leisurely glass of wine.

“Great time! Really enjoyed the food. The chef even took the time to come out and speak to us about his fermented hot pepper sauce that they serve with the chicken wings. If you are ever in the area you have to try the fermented hot chicken wings which pair nicely with the marinated olives.“

“For those new to the joy of mazesoba, I took a video of how to enjoy every last bit of it. Once you have finished eating the mazesoba noodles, you will feel sad that you are unable to lick the bowl, have every last streak of awesome sauce and 'eat the bowl clean' like your Asian mom told you to do growing up. You will think what a waste of the delicious sauce, all those nice bits of minced meat, seaweed, and spring onion. And then they will offer you a few spoonfuls of rice. You add it into the bowl and use it to soak up all the delicious sauce and pick up all the yummy bits. You will add the delicious homemade vinegar that you have been enjoying eating the entire meal. And when you finish and the bowl is clean, you will, for the rest of your life, wonder why other delicious noodle places don't offer this as part of an expected piece of noodle life. ?

Vegetarian options: The most delicious vegetarian mazesoba ever. So worth it.“

“First time for us, attended a private function. Food was delicious and filling. The service was outstanding and extremely attentive. They had a vast array of sake and after ordering the sake flight (sampler tray), we found a few options that we really liked and ordered a couple of bottles. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious. There was an assortment of dishes that we tried that were on par with many of the high end restaurants, such as the egg omelet with crab ankake and the BBQ eel Unagi rice bowl. Street parking was easy to find. We’d definitely come back to Hashigo Sake Bar.“

“I loved Guu—it's one of my favorite places in Vancouver. The experience feels just like being in Tokyo, with authentic flavors and tatami seating. The food is consistently superb, and they have daily specials. We tried the tuna steak, which was outstanding, and the octopus with wasabi and tofu with enoki were also fantastic. The staff is incredibly friendly and explained everything to us. The place is open very late; we dined at 11 pm, and it was still bustling with diners. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu.

I love Guu—it's one of my favorite spots in Vancouver. The experience is incredibly authentic, just like being in Japan, complete with tatami seating. The food is consistently excellent, and they offer daily specials. I enjoy both their appetizers and main dishes. I don't even have specific favorites because I appreciate everything on the menu and make a point to try something new each time I visit.“
