“Rude server - My wife's first experience going out after giving birth. The male server peaked over her shoulder while she paid and made a rude comment when he saw she tipped 'only' 15% on a $20 cocktail. Completely ruined her night. Train your staff better.“

Overall everything is just more expensive even though that's very much expected. We might have gone a few times a year before but now will probably go one time a year or less. Or if we happen to be in the area (not very often).

“We found this place through recommendations on Reddit and are so glad we did. The restaurant is underrated. Definitely a 5 star experience, especially for the price. We had their set menu. Every dish was close to a piece of art, with every detail thought through. Service friendly, attentive and seamless (we never had to wait for the next dish for over a minute for instance). Everyone speaks to each other in japanese, which is fun but it also gave the restaurant an authentic vibe. The salmon sushi was one of the best I ever had. Leaving delicious salmon aside, my husband and I both thought that there was something special about how the rice was cooked. Cod was amazing too. The ice cream with warm cheese sauce was also incredible. Our new favorite place in Vancouver.“

“Guu is one of my favourite places to be, especially in the rainy fall/winter months. Such a warm atmosphere, great server vibes, and fun changing menu.

We usually order whatever sounds intriguing and haven't been disappointed. Such a gem. God, I love it here.

Pros will get stoned pre-dinner reservation, eat a bunch of cool shit off the specials menu, then walk across the street to Dank Mart to pay $7 for a chocolate bar with Shaq's face on it for dessert.“

“First time for us, attended a private function. Food was delicious and filling. The service was outstanding and extremely attentive. They had a vast array of sake and after ordering the sake flight (sampler tray), we found a few options that we really liked and ordered a couple of bottles. The sashimi was very fresh and delicious. There was an assortment of dishes that we tried that were on par with many of the high end restaurants, such as the egg omelet with crab ankake and the BBQ eel Unagi rice bowl. Street parking was easy to find. We’d definitely come back to Hashigo Sake Bar.“

“We were in Vancouver for a day trip from Nanaimo and decided to check this place out for breakfast. Had Mangled Eggs and my bf had Big Ass Breakfast. Food came out fast and both were delicious. Also had a peanut butter milkshake which was really really good. Our server was cheerful, fun, kind and attentive. Cool old diner atmosphere. We really enjoyed our visit! Going to try hamburgers for lunch next time.“

“The best experience we had for afternoon tea at Lounge 1927. Friendly staff welcomed us at the entrance and the server Christie was very attentive, knowledgeable and passionated in serving us and others as well. Food was great and tea as well. We had a happy afternoon tea experience yesterday and would recommend it to others.“

My server gave me a secret off the menu beef and udon dish which literally sizzled to the point of creating dancing bonito flakes as I tried to document in the video below. The classic tofu salad with a romesco sweet pepper twist was also sublime but honestly the best part was the second floor people judging ..I mean watching.. of notoriously colourful/sketchy/surreal Gastown.“
