“I wish I didn’t know this place exists. How am I ever going to cope with any other sushi place?!
The dishes being served here are DEVINE! The silken tofu feels like whipped cream in your mouth. They really should sell this stuff in a spray can so you can just squeeze it into your mouth.
My daughter and I order a few things we thought would be small dishes. But we were wrong. The rolls are not only beautiful and unique, they are also generous. My vegetarian set had so many delightful aspects and I could take enough home to re-live the experience with a second light lunch.
Everything is fragrant and unique. The miso soup was so rich and not like any other. The King Salmon Sashimi is rich but light, unctuous and fresh. And I don’t usual think much of rice but it is so well done and flavourful here, I could have eaten a Ramen size bowl of it and still want more.
They also have a great array of beverages including specials not listed on the everyday menu.
I already have plans for my next visit - I can’t wait for my Huzband to order a set menu that gives a little taste of all the variety on the menu.
If you love raw seafood or Aburi style, and you want unique tastes not available elsewhere, this is a MUST TRY! And there was great vegetarian options too.
But don’t go here if you don’t want to spoil yourself. Like tasting chocolate and knowing you can never go without it again. Bib Gourmand is fully merited. Including the wonderful front of house team.“

“Great food and excellent service! The Chicken Yaki Udon was delicious, with fresh ingredients and a flavorful sauce. The sushi and other dishes were also incredibly tasty and well-prepared. The food arrived hot and still steaming, which made the experience even better. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was welcoming. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this restaurant to others!“

“Visiting Vancouver as the last leg of a cross-country trip and stumbled across Oku Izakaya. Even though the restaurant fully booked online we were swiftly seated. Great range of hot and cold Japanese food. Specifically the hot potatoes balls - would definitely go back for those alone!“

“Recommended here by one of our Nurse friends, so we dropped by for an early lunch today w/ my 2 coworkers. Sooo yummy! First impression? Delish!!! huge servings & the use of fluffy brown rice was the determining factor of the meal NOT being gastro-heavy! Very nice presentation! Good size servings! Will definitely return on another lunchbreak! yummmmmy!“

“Popped in here quickly before my hair appointment to grab a bite, and I was excited to see they only served wild salmon.
Then I was even more excited when I got my food as the fish was incredibly fresh, and delicious. Everyone working there was very welcoming too - definitely recommend“

“Hard to find a parking. Paid parking from next door building cost $8ish/hr.
One free meal set on Birthday!
Portion was just right for lunch, not too much. Salad was fresh, pickles were yum. Meat was nice, we love the beef most. And price was very affordable for lunch set!“

“A great little sushi place! There are two seats for dine in but I did take out through their online ordering. The couple who runs the shop have the best hospitality. They care very deeply about the food and service!
The fish was amazingly fresh and I really enjoyed the saba shiso roll. I'm very excited to try they their other rolls next time!“

“We had such a wonderful experience on March 17, 2026 at Miku Japanese Restaurant at River Rock Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service was truly top-notch—the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our needs and made us feel genuinely cared for. What really stood out was their thoughtfulness and attentiveness. As soon as they noticed that one of our friends was wearing a veil and the rest of us had our Team Bride sashes on, they kindly arranged a private dining room for us. It made the celebration feel even more special and intimate. The ambience was also fantastic—cool, relaxing, and enhanced by a great selection of music. The warm, Japanese-style décor added a beautiful and authentic touch to the overall dining experience. We also appreciated the complimentary non-alcoholic drinks, especially since we had decided not to drink before going swimming. It was such a considerate gesture that didn’t go unnoticed. And of course, the food was amazing—every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience with exceptional service, thoughtful touches, and incredible food. Highly recommended for special occasions!“

“Apparently this restaurant is under new management, and I’d never actually been here so we stopped by randomly on Saturday evening and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was great and the food well presented and tasty. A group of us decided to return for dinner on Monday, and again the service was awesome..the chef also goes above and beyond with the presentation of the food. I can see this restaurant doing really well.“

Everything was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavour, making for a very enjoyable dining experience. I’ll be coming back for their dinner menu!“
“Super cool sushi spot. It's all bar seating so you can watch the chef's prepare the food. They bring out the rolls one at a time and time it to perfection so you're never waiting for food. There is a lot of care to detail in the presentation of the food as well“

“The absolute highlight here is the braised beef short rib hot stone rice bowl which the meat was incredibly tender and nicely marinated in BBQ sauce, with a great side of kimchi. The kale salad was also a solid choice. Unfortunately, the fried chicken was a bit too dry for my liking. Overall, though, the rice bowl alone makes this place well worth a visit“

“Wonderful, attentive, and friendly service. The portions are perfectly sized. Not too much but not too little. Pricing, while note cheap, is extremely reasonable for the quality of the food that you're getting. A wonderful gem hidden in Kits. I highly recommend this to anyone. “Gotta be one of the most amazing restaurants in Vancouver, if not #1! Absolutely worth braving and unhoused- and drug-beset streets of Gastown for one of the best meals you'll ever have! Started out with the local Amaro flight, which is a must-try if that's your thing; Kakao cocktail is super fun and tasty as well, with accompanying chocolate. Happy Hour menu is incredible, both in taste and value - Beef Tendon Chicharrons are fantastic, far and away the best we've ever had, a must-try. Scallops, Kimchi Croquettes, Eggplant Skewers, Ox Tongue Skewers, and Duck Empanadas are all beautiful and delicious. Roti Canai is not only the best Roti we've ever had, but the best bread we've ever had, period, another must-try. Pork Belly Rice Bowl is another winner, perfectly composed, tender, and savory. Classics Flight is another great excursion, and then Purple Haze and Steel Magnolias were an outstanding pair of well-balanced cocktails. Onto dessert - dinner was so incredible we were tempted to spring for three, so we did. The Miso Ice Cream mochi was a uniquely fantastic textural and flavorful start, followed by the Pavlova topped with pandan sorbet, creme patisserie, and jackfruit - a harmonious ensemble. Finally was the Haskapp Poached Pear, another cohesive combination with oat crumble and awesome rhubarb sorbet and coconut cream. Our server/bartender took great care of us at the bar, all the food came out perfectly paced, and the romantic and copacetic atmosphere of the restaurant made for an unforgettable evening!“

“This is a slightly more elevated sushi spot for the Joyce-Collingwood area, which is definitely in need of more sushi options. While some items are priced a bit higher, there are still plenty of reasonably priced choices, including the maki rolls and appetizers, so it doesn't feel out of line with what you'd pay elsewhere in the city.
The nigiri and appetizer selection were the standout items for me, and the lunch sets also seem to be quite popular.
My only criticism is that there was a little too much sauce across several dishes. We ordered a few rolls and the brussels sprouts, and almost everything was heavily dressed. For me, a good roll shouldn't need sauce poured over top. If sauce is being used, I'd rather see it incorporated into the filling so the fish and other ingredients can still shine.
After a while, the sauces started to make different dishes taste somewhat similar, and even the brussels sprouts lost some of their own flavour. A lighter touch would go a long way. The quality of the ingredients is there, but I think cleaner, simpler flavour combinations would elevate the overall experience and bring this place closer to a 5/5.“

“Going here for a second time. Food and atmosphere is still good. Parking is expensive though, $10/hr. Their chawamushi is so smooth and tasty. Prawn tempura just ok. Nigiri are good. Beef yakiudon is good. Udon is tender. Dessert pear ginger mousse is too sweet.“

“Did not expect much from this place, went here because it is close to where we live. But we left truly blown-away. I ordered saba fish bbq plate and my husband ordered hamachi bento set.
Every meal including the sides are very simple, homey, but cooked just perfect. Every ingredients feels fresh, and perfectly-seasoned (even the salad!). We couldn’t help but cleaned up our plates. We’ll be back for sure!“

“We wanted something on the lighter side because it was hot outside. This hit the spot. It wasn’t too busy and we got a table right away. The noodles were nice and chewy in the broth was hot. The cold beer on the side, balanced out my meal.“

“Would definitely come back here for reasonably priced sushi that hit the spot.
The menu was large, and had a decent number of vegetarian options. I hadn't had negihamachi maki before, but really enjoyed it. The pan-fried gyoza weren't the biggest looking from the outside, but were packed full of filling.
We came in pretty late, and we were the only people dining in, but the service was quick and friendly. Seemed like they did a lot of takeaway orders while we were there.
Sure, there are fancy places about where you can spend 2-3x as much and can eat in a fancy setting, and the quality of ingredients might be better. But for a great little neighbourhood spot, everything tasted good, and the price is much more palatable.“

“Our go-to sushi place. There are many sushi restaurants in Vancouver, easily one of the most common ethnic restaurants along with Chinese restaurants. Is it the best sushi? Well, the competition is tough, but for tasty, well-made and fresh food, this is definitely a contender. Sushi Kaido is unquestionably our family favourite – the place to go to for comfort food. Furthermore, the staff are so friendly and welcoming. No matter how busy, and they’re often busy, we are always greeted warmly, and the service is pleasant and swift. We frequently dine-in and that’s the best way to have the food here. On Friday nights we order takeout and while never as good as that served fresh to the table, it is nevertheless delicious and satisfying. The photos are of our recent takeout. One of us is vegan and there are many options. The veggie gyozas are wonderful, as are the rolls. The Teriyaki Chicken is a favourite but we recently tried the Chicken Karrage Donburi which is likely to become our next favourite! The Chicken Yakiudon was tasty but didn’t do well as takeout – I recommend it if you dine in. Sushi Kaido is a gem and absolutely worth a visit.“

“I went to this place and this place is phenomenal. I recommend to go during lunch because it just opened and everything feels more fresh.
The atmosphere when I walked in is full decorations and lots of plants at the entrance to make it feel more Japan vibes. There are also photos of food at the entrance so you know what your ordering and what to expect. Even the washroom has mini paintings.
The service is mostly quick, although our server didn't know the menu so it took some time. Everything else was expected.
The food is outstanding. I recommend ordering sashimi and rolls tray if you can finish it. The food is absolutely fresh and I can taste it in every bite. And everything is reasonably cheap which is fantastic.
Overall this place is a must go if you want to eat Japanese sushi and your in the area.“

“I’ve been here so many times (maybe times was on Sunday and Monday keep forgetting they aren’t open) about $15 for a full sashimi… can’t beat that price. Love their rolls too. Massive pieces. Stuffed full of filling.
$26 the picture you see
If you ever come and they seem to ignore you or forget about you. They aren’t being rude. They simply have one pair of hands each and they are trying to make sure food goes out quickly and make take outs and yes sometimes tables don’t get cleared right away. But runned by a very caring couple. Honest reasonable prices and super fresh. They could always charge us more and hire some help 😏“

“A lot of the time, the restaurant is only as good as the server. Hapa is a superior restaurant and my server was Shione! She recommended the Chipotle. I went with that and it was real tasty! How a server interacts with the customer is the most important part of the experience. She reacted as though she was rewarding me for going out to enjoy my food. Her mannerisms told me that my presence was important instead of someone who was just making her work. Thank you!🙂“

“We visited Akira one evening after a walk around English Bay. It was our first time and we walked in and ordered a takeaway to eat on the beach. We had the chicken teriyaki box and a roll combo which included miso soup, california and dynamite rolls (pictured). It was incredibly nice and fast service, they offered us tea while we waited. We took our food to the beach and it was so fresh and absolutely delicious, we immediately knew we’d be returning to order from them again. Inside the restaurant is a very cool design on the walls with pictures covering it from floor to ceiling and a large window in the front facing the busy street, ideal for people-watching. This place offers very good quality food at a great price and we look forward to returning.“

“🍣 One of Vancouver’s BEST Sushi Experiences 🇯🇵✨
📍 Saiko Sushi
1086 W Broadway, Vancouver, BC V6H 1E6
Today I visited Saiko Sushi, one of Vancouver’s highly rated sushi destinations, and the quality was absolutely impressive.
My favorites:
🥩 Wagyu Sushi
🍣 Salmon Belly
🐟 Toro
💛 Hamachi
The chef’s delicate cuts really highlighted the freshness and texture of each ingredient.
But the biggest surprise was the Saba 🤯
It was topped with an umami-packed seaweed that perfectly balanced the flavor of the fish. Complex, elegant, and incredibly delicious.
If you’re a sushi lover, this place deserves a spot on your Vancouver food list.

“Loved every minute of our dining experience here! The aromas upon entering this wee spot got us excited, the welcoming staff were lovely, and then...the food. We ordered Omakase C - Cofu and were delighted! The presentation is artful, but not fussily so. The flavours were layered and subtle so every ingredient could be tasted. Our favourite was the salmon sushi (we ordered an extra 8 pieces!), rich, decadent and delish, especially with the Cilantro Cucumber sauce. We tried the Restore and Elevate mushroom tinctures on the rocks; unexpected flavours, but they grew on us paired with the food and a little ice melt dilution. We will go back time and again to try everything on the menu. Highly recommended!“

“Really enjoyed this place. The broth was clean and had great flavor, noodles were perfectly chewy, and the meat was cooked so well - really tender. The fried tofu paired nicely with the udon too, seasoning was spot on.

“A very good Resturant
Atmosphere is great. Comfortable and not smoky or u feel I have to change cloths right afterward
They do have a locker for guest to use to store your stuff which is great.
High end decoration with few table serving 4-6 guests, a semi private partitioned table for somen privacy if needed
We sit at the U shaped bar table where each guest have their own bbq set. Pretty good and clean.
Staff a very nice and helpful and explain each steps needed and even help u cook if needed
We are here on a week day dinner and not busy. Heard they are always full in weekend so plan ahead
One thing is they told us that after 8pm each night it’s happy hour where the food have special pricing discount like 50% off or buy 2 get 1 free, even for drinks.
Food are top quality beef and no don’t they are best meet from Japan
We ordered the biggest plate for sharing and it’s pretty enough for us. For some heavy eater, I guess can order a plate for 2 people and order other side dishes
Love it
It’s expensive but worth to come for dating or celebrating“

“Kissa Tanto is everything the hype suggests it is.
My wife and I decided to focus on the seafood offerings for the evening, and that decision was rewarded from the very first course.
Every dish demonstrated exceptional restraint, balance and confidence. The seafood remained the hero throughout, while each accompanying ingredient added thoughtful layers of flavour, texture and contrast without ever competing for attention.
The oysters were beautifully presented with elegant, well-balanced mignonettes that complemented rather than overwhelmed their natural brine. The octopus salad was outstanding—layer upon layer of vegetables, textures and flavours, each contributing something distinct while coming together as a remarkably cohesive dish. The charcoal udon carried that same sense of balance and depth, and the fish of the moment (halibut) was cooked perfectly, allowing the quality of the fish to speak for itself.
Exceptional food, a warm and inviting atmosphere, and polished, attentive service made for a memorable evening. More than anything, we appreciated the respect shown not only to the seafood, but to every ingredient on the plate. Each component had a purpose, contributing to the whole without ever overshadowing the star of the dish. It’s precisely that level of confidence and restraint that encourages us to return and explore the rest of the menu.“
