“I don’t usually write food reviews, but Todai Sushi deserves one.

I stopped in for lunch today and ordered their lunch box. For just $17, it comes with tea, soup, and a generously portioned box — already an excellent value. What really impressed me, though, was the care and attention to detail in every item.

The teriyaki beef was freshly pan-fried, with the meat and vegetables separated so the beef sits nicely on top. It’s the first time I’ve seen a lunch box done this way, and it made a big difference. The vegetables had just the right amount of oil — flavorful but not greasy.

The California roll was a standout too. Unlike many places that pull pre-made rolls straight from the fridge, these were fresh and at a perfect temperature. The size, portion, and balance between rice and fillings were spot on.

Then there was the tempura. It was made fresh to order, with a thin, delicate batter that gave the ideal ratio of crunch to softness. The coating actually stuck to the ingredients (unlike the thick, heavy, or flaky batter I’ve had elsewhere).

I still can’t believe how much thought and quality went into a $17 lunch box. Todai Sushi is doing it right — keep up the excellent work!“

“We love this Japanese restaurant for the high food quality, high staff quality, reasonable prices in today's market & location! Today, I tried the Nigiri Lunch and loved it! My husband had the double meat chicken teriyaki and some of mine cause it looked so tasty, and it truly was scrumptious ! We started with the Crae crae roll (shared). In my Nigiri lunch, I upgraded the salmon to sockeye, one dollar more, but worth it! The miso soup was perfect for us as we watch our sodium and they only use low sodium soya sauce! The combination of food, service & cost is why they get 5 stars! Any staff we saw were very friendly & said hello & goodbye. Customer service is top notch! Aside note, their green tea is one of the best we've enjoyed, too!“

“My first time trying here I got the Salmon Oshi lunch combo ($22 or 23). My initial impressions were I am very happy. They provide a miso soup even for takeout. I regularly get this combo from different sushi, places and appreciate the quality of all the items here. I will rate them below individually;
-Salmon Oshi 9/10 (really like this year, and the quality of this role only lost slight points due to not the freshest seeming rice and flavour is a little less than my favourite oshi. But excellent value)
-salad 10/10! This was literally my favourite salad that’s comes with a combo. Dressing is really nice lots of flavor!
-tempera 9/10 (excellent fresh tempura. Liked the touch of a tempera onion ring. I’ve never seen this from a sushi place!)
-miso soup 7/10 (miso soup never rates very high for me just personal preference but is nice in a combo)
-Ebi sunomono 9/10 was great value and fresh!

“I've tried many sushi places and Sushi Wara is definitely the best I've tried so far! Their California rolls blow everyone else's out of the water and their chicken karaage is better than dedicated chicken restaurants!

I've ordered here constantly using Uber eats and never had any problems with delivery time being long.

Also had a chance to dine in recently and the decor is amazing. Service is also impeccable!

“Local Japanese owned shop. Service was fast. Small menu, but good soba.

Onigiri was made fresh. Lots of filling and well seasoned.

Fried tempura was a bit hard. Would try a different side for the cold soba next time.

“I rarely leave reviews, but as a huge lover of Japanese cuisine, I couldn't skip this one.
In terms of quality, the food here easily stands shoulder-to-shoulder with high-end spots like Miku or the Fairmont, but at a fraction of the cost. It’s unfair to compare this place to your typical neighborhood sushi joint—the culinary experience here is in a completely different league.
I genuinely hope they keep serving this level of delicious, diverse food and fine wine at these incredible prices for a long time. I’ll definitely be coming back regularly!“

“I went to this place and this place is phenomenal. I recommend to go during lunch because it just opened and everything feels more fresh.

The atmosphere when I walked in is full decorations and lots of plants at the entrance to make it feel more Japan vibes. There are also photos of food at the entrance so you know what your ordering and what to expect. Even the washroom has mini paintings.

The service is mostly quick, although our server didn't know the menu so it took some time. Everything else was expected.

The food is outstanding. I recommend ordering sashimi and rolls tray if you can finish it. The food is absolutely fresh and I can taste it in every bite. And everything is reasonably cheap which is fantastic.

Overall this place is a must go if you want to eat Japanese sushi and your in the area.“

“Big fan of the varying shiso and seaweed type toppings on these fusion pastas. Everything was delicious, though a little on the pricey side. They're super busy, but despite that, the waitstaff were attentive and friendly throughout.

“Haven't been to Yuu for a while and we went back last week. Price didn't go up much despite the inflation. Kids order some special drink and the staff even gave them a small ice-cream cone to top it off. Great gesture. Would definitely be going back more often.“

“Asa Sushi is a great spot if you're craving both Japanese and Korean cuisine. The food is consistently solid, with plenty of delicious options to choose from.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the girls working there were especially kind and attentive to my 8-year-old, which made our visit even more enjoyable. The restaurant has a lively, welcoming vibe and is usually busy—a good sign that it's a local favorite.

“Ganbei Izakaya is a fun-looking Japanese spot in Richmond that reminds me of the little restaurants in Japan. It's kinda hidden with the entrance in a walkway at a strip mall. The interior has lots of murals and figurines.

Oyster Motoyaki ($9) was big and had enoki mushrooms and corn in the creamy and fatty sauce.
Chicken Yakitori ($7) were quite good and better than the Pork Belly ($8). The Chicken Wings ($10) took the longest to arrive at our table and was my least fav of the items we tried.
Ton-Toro ($12) skewers were quite fatty and tender - better than the pork belly.
BBQ Saba ($15) was pretty good despite being rather basic in appearance.
The Sashimi Salad ($24) was huge but very refreshing. Bbq Salmon Belly ($10) was pleasantly fatty and oily.
Unfortunately, the Tsukune was sold out.
For sushi, we ordered the negitoro, salmon belly, chopped scallop, hamachi - all were quite good from the tender fish down to the rice so we decided to order more sushi:
negitoro, kampachi, unagi.

If you miss the izakayas in Japan, this is a good spot to try out.“

Took my family here for a birthday celebration over the long weekend, and it was the busiest we've seen. “Been there 5 times and never disappointed! Their lunch menu was impressed - combos come with a drink, side and rice - the meat patties were juicy and solid. I also enjoyed their dinner sets - the two people combo is sure to have you 12/10 full with a smile! I love their Japanese style hamburger steaks - plump and juicy. The unlimited miso soup is another added highlight. Tiramisu, Penna cotta were lovely finish to a delicious dinner. Highly recommended and I’m sure to visit again soon!“

“We originally planned to have lunch at a nearby pub while watching the Team Canada soccer match, but when we arrived, the pub was already packed nearly an hour before kickoff. Looking for an alternative, we stumbled upon this Japanese restaurant specializing in ramen and yakitori —and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

Although the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, it had a large television broadcasting the match live, allowing us to enjoy the game in a much more comfortable and relaxed setting without the crowds and noise of a sports bar.

We ordered the tonkotsu ramen set, which came with a side of assorted sashimi and yakitori. The food was freshly prepared and served hot. The tonkotsu broth was rich and comforting, the sashimi was fresh, and the yakitori was nicely grilled. While the food quality was good and perfectly reasonable, it wasn't particularly memorable or something that stood out from other Japanese restaurants.

What really made this visit enjoyable was the overall experience. Being able to watch Team Canada's match on a big screen while having a relaxed lunch made for an unexpectedly pleasant afternoon. Sometimes the atmosphere and timing make as much of a difference as the food itself.

Overall, this restaurant offers solid Japanese comfort food in a comfortable setting. It may not be a destination for exceptional ramen or yakitori, but it's certainly a great place to enjoy a casual meal—especially if there's a live sporting event on the big screen.“

“I used to go to the Vancouver location, but parking there has become pretty difficult, and it doesn’t seem to be as busy as it used to be. If you don’t want to wait too long, I’d definitely consider this location instead.
This was my first time here, and I was a little worried about the smell because every time I ate at the Vancouver location, I would leave smelling strongly of cooking oil from head to toe. The smell would stick to my clothes and hair so badly that I felt like I had to change and wash everything afterward.
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case here. The restaurant is more spacious, and there was much less of that heavy greasy smell. The service was also great. The staff were friendly and the refills came out really quickly.
We ordered the Hire Katsu, Katsu Nabe Hire + Udon, and Kake Udon. The meat was tender and juicy, and the breading was nicely fried and didn’t fall apart.
By the time we started eating, there was already a line outside. Overall, we had a really good experience and would definitely come back.“
