“We love this Japanese restaurant for the high food quality, high staff quality, reasonable prices in today's market & location! Today, I tried the Nigiri Lunch and loved it! My husband had the double meat chicken teriyaki and some of mine cause it looked so tasty, and it truly was scrumptious ! We started with the Crae crae roll (shared). In my Nigiri lunch, I upgraded the salmon to sockeye, one dollar more, but worth it! The miso soup was perfect for us as we watch our sodium and they only use low sodium soya sauce! The combination of food, service & cost is why they get 5 stars! Any staff we saw were very friendly & said hello & goodbye. Customer service is top notch! Aside note, their green tea is one of the best we've enjoyed, too!“

“Haven’t been here in a while, but we stopped in recently for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. It seems like there are new owners and a new menu. The chicken teriyaki lunch bento was huge, reasonably priced, and delicious.
Our server was incredibly gracious and friendly. She let us sample a couple of the new menu items—the marinated salmon and the avocado mango nigiri—and both were very tasty.
We’ll definitely be back. If you haven’t been here in a while like I had, I’d highly recommend stopping by again.“

“Had a great take out teriyaki combo dinner tonight. The tempura was light and a good variety. The beef teriyaki on cabbage was delicious. the miso soup and sushi were especially delicious. I had to save the sunomono salad for tomorrow's lunch. Wonderful to have a great Japanese restaurant in town.“

“I've tried many sushi places and Sushi Wara is definitely the best I've tried so far! Their California rolls blow everyone else's out of the water and their chicken karaage is better than dedicated chicken restaurants!
I've ordered here constantly using Uber eats and never had any problems with delivery time being long.
Also had a chance to dine in recently and the decor is amazing. Service is also impeccable!
Definitely a level above the rest and its gonna be hard for me to find something better.“

“We discovered this place earlier this year and it’s our go to sushi place now! We were struggling to find somewhere that had consistent food quality and fair prices. We are more than happy every time we finish our food! The portions are an amazing size for the price you pay. If you’re in the area make sure to check it out!“

“Such a great sushi spot!
The sushi is always fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. My absolute favorites are the Popcorn Roll and the Lion King Roll—both are incredible and a must-try if you're visiting for the first time.
The service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. Highly recommend!“

“This sushi spot inside the mall is great! I had the nigiri combo and was extremely satisfied—it even comes with miso soup, which was awesome. You can tell they really care about hygiene since they change their disposable gloves frequently while making the food. The sashimi is so fresh and delicious, and the staff were very friendly. I will definitely be back!“

“The reviews say it all. This is one of the best sushi I've had in a long time. I've been to 100+ sushi restaurants and have visited Japan. The quality of fish was amazing, and attention to the ingredients like rice and nori are what you'd see it very high end restaurant. Had a sushi platter and I would have ordered another if I wasn't full. It's a small simple place but the food is awesome.“

“Smaller sushi restaurants like this are always the best. Instead of a place like Mura, save some money and wait time, and come here. The staff are super friendly and the food is, in my opinion, much better. If you haven’t tried it yet and have been meaning to- do it; I bet you’ll love it.“

“This is a slightly more elevated sushi spot for the Joyce-Collingwood area, which is definitely in need of more sushi options. While some items are priced a bit higher, there are still plenty of reasonably priced choices, including the maki rolls and appetizers, so it doesn't feel out of line with what you'd pay elsewhere in the city.
The nigiri and appetizer selection were the standout items for me, and the lunch sets also seem to be quite popular.
My only criticism is that there was a little too much sauce across several dishes. We ordered a few rolls and the brussels sprouts, and almost everything was heavily dressed. For me, a good roll shouldn't need sauce poured over top. If sauce is being used, I'd rather see it incorporated into the filling so the fish and other ingredients can still shine.
After a while, the sauces started to make different dishes taste somewhat similar, and even the brussels sprouts lost some of their own flavour. A lighter touch would go a long way. The quality of the ingredients is there, but I think cleaner, simpler flavour combinations would elevate the overall experience and bring this place closer to a 5/5.“

“I went to this place and this place is phenomenal. I recommend to go during lunch because it just opened and everything feels more fresh.
The atmosphere when I walked in is full decorations and lots of plants at the entrance to make it feel more Japan vibes. There are also photos of food at the entrance so you know what your ordering and what to expect. Even the washroom has mini paintings.
The service is mostly quick, although our server didn't know the menu so it took some time. Everything else was expected.
The food is outstanding. I recommend ordering sashimi and rolls tray if you can finish it. The food is absolutely fresh and I can taste it in every bite. And everything is reasonably cheap which is fantastic.
Overall this place is a must go if you want to eat Japanese sushi and your in the area.“

“Wasuta Pasta is one of Richmond’s hidden gems. Tucked away in an industrial area, it’s well worth seeking out if you’re looking for something different. Their Japanese-Italian fusion is incredibly unique, with fresh house-made pasta and flavours that are both creative and comforting.
Every dish we’ve tried has been well executed, and you can really tell they put care into both the ingredients and presentation. The cozy atmosphere and friendly service make the experience even better.“

“Asa Sushi is a great spot if you're craving both Japanese and Korean cuisine. The food is consistently solid, with plenty of delicious options to choose from.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the girls working there were especially kind and attentive to my 8-year-old, which made our visit even more enjoyable. The restaurant has a lively, welcoming vibe and is usually busy—a good sign that it's a local favorite.
If you're looking for good food, great service, and a fun atmosphere, Asa Sushi is definitely worth a visit!“

“This was our second time visit Sushi Mura at the River Crossing District. The food was so good and sashimi so fresh.
The salmon sashimi cuts were thick where I had to take two bites to finish them, and if you know me I eat a lot.
Service was friendly and attentive. We went around 5pm and the restaurant wasn’t busy, but was full by the end of our meal. Our ordered meals came out in about 10 minutes. We ordered a udon soup, beef teriyaki, chirashi-don bowl and an order of salmon sashimi.“

“Second time here and wanted to see how their Bento boxes were.
Food was quite nice and Bento generously proportional to its price. The sushi and sashimi were fresh. A high 4 for food.
Service was acceptable considering only one person was running the whole place. Hot tea actively refilled. A solid 4.
Atmosphere was acceptable with this time the windows were boarded up. Washroom were decent. Other than that it is a high 3.
Would consider again if in the vicinity.“

“We originally planned to have lunch at a nearby pub while watching the Team Canada soccer match, but when we arrived, the pub was already packed nearly an hour before kickoff. Looking for an alternative, we stumbled upon this Japanese restaurant specializing in ramen and yakitori —and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
Although the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, it had a large television broadcasting the match live, allowing us to enjoy the game in a much more comfortable and relaxed setting without the crowds and noise of a sports bar.
We ordered the tonkotsu ramen set, which came with a side of assorted sashimi and yakitori. The food was freshly prepared and served hot. The tonkotsu broth was rich and comforting, the sashimi was fresh, and the yakitori was nicely grilled. While the food quality was good and perfectly reasonable, it wasn't particularly memorable or something that stood out from other Japanese restaurants.
What really made this visit enjoyable was the overall experience. Being able to watch Team Canada's match on a big screen while having a relaxed lunch made for an unexpectedly pleasant afternoon. Sometimes the atmosphere and timing make as much of a difference as the food itself.
Overall, this restaurant offers solid Japanese comfort food in a comfortable setting. It may not be a destination for exceptional ramen or yakitori, but it's certainly a great place to enjoy a casual meal—especially if there's a live sporting event on the big screen.“

“Small joint tucked away in the Royal Oak area, nice banh mi shop next door as well -
Place is small, so limited tables, so you may want to plan ahead during meal times, as seating could be a bit, we lucked out however, as they weren't very busy in the middle of the afternoon.
Service was quick, and friendly, they are also quite attentive, and feels like they are a step ahead with refills etc.
Rolls were basic but they nailed the simplicity of the California, salmon and dynamite rolls - prices are very fair for portion -
Probably will re-visit to explore the menu more, however a tad out of the way.“

“We are locals and come to Kamome very often. We came today on Monday night and the place got busy really quick. The staff was obviously was short as ai think its unusual. But I want to send them a kudo for handling in house guests and call orders very professionally. They are always polite respectful and the food is always spot on. Thank you for your hard work.“

“Visited for the first time since the new owners took over, and what a pleasant surprise! The restaurant has a fresh new energy while still keeping the quality and spirit of a great Japanese dining experience. The biggest standout was the freshness of the food. From the sushi to the sashimi, every bite tasted incredibly fresh and well-prepared. The ingredients were high quality, the presentation was beautiful, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every dish. The menu offers some exciting new options, bringing a different flavor and experience compared to before. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. It's great to see this restaurant thriving under new management. If you haven't visited recently, I highly recommend giving it another try. Fresh ingredients, delicious food, friendly service, and excellent value. We'll definitely be back!“

“Best tonkatsu in town, hands down! Our kids absolutely love this place, and it’s a family favorite for a reason. The meat is incredibly juicy and the crust is perfectly crispy every single time. “This may not be prime beef, but what you pay for is definitely worth the value. The Galaxy combo is the perfect amount to celebrate Father's day. The interior is pretty cool with all the anime. The food is unique enough to want to come back and try more.
If you're comparing this steak to Gordon Ramsey Steakhouse then you're as moronic as the people he criticizes. This isn't meant to compete. But it is an overall great experience“

“I almost walked past this place because the exterior looks a bit dated and the surrounding area isn’t particularly eye-catching. The dining room is also quite small and the interior could definitely use some updating. However, the high ratings convinced me to give it a try, and I’m glad I did.
I ordered the aburi sushi combo, a tamago nigiri, and a miso soup.
The miso soup was probably the weakest part of the meal. It tasted like a fairly standard instant-style miso soup with soft tofu and rehydrated seaweed. One small suggestion: the soup bowl I received was very heavily scratched from years of use. As I got further into the soup, it became difficult to tell whether the marks were simply wear or if the bowl wasn’t completely clean. Replacing some of the older bowls would improve the overall dining experience.
The real highlight was the aburi sushi combo. It took a little longer than expected to arrive, but once it did, I understood why. The presentation was beautiful, the variety was excellent, and the quality of the fish really stood out. Every piece had great flavor, the fish was fresh and nicely marbled, and the torching added a wonderful aroma. Considering the price, it’s honestly an outstanding value and something I’d definitely recommend ordering.
My only suggestion for the aburi sushi is that it was slightly oilier than necessary. It looked like the sushi was torched directly on the serving plate, leaving quite a bit of rendered fish oil underneath. The rice had already absorbed some of the oil from the fish, and then picked up even more from the plate. It wasn’t greasy enough to ruin the dish, but it did make the overall bite a little heavier. I think torching the sushi first and plating it afterward could help preserve the same great flavor while keeping the rice lighter.
The tamago nigiri was just okay. It tasted like the tamago had been refrigerated and reheated before serving, so it lacked the soft, freshly made texture I was hoping for. To be fair, I visited around 4 p.m. and I was the only customer, so I completely understand why they weren’t making fresh tamago at that time. It was a little disappointing, but not a dealbreaker.
The service was friendly and efficient. Nothing particularly exceptional, but definitely pleasant.
Overall, despite the dated interior, the quality of the sushi exceeded my expectations. With a few small improvements, this place could be even better. I’d happily come back again, especially for the aburi sushi combo.“

“Dropped by today for a quick lunch between meetings. Service was prompt, warm with subtle attentiveness. I ordered a tuna roll and a scallop roll and it’s hard to hide if the quality is poor. Enjoyed my tempura too, lightly battered. It was perfect! Nicely presented too. Going back to order party trays next week!“

“I don’t usually write food reviews, but Todai Sushi deserves one.
I stopped in for lunch today and ordered their lunch box. For just $17, it comes with tea, soup, and a generously portioned box — already an excellent value. What really impressed me, though, was the care and attention to detail in every item.
The teriyaki beef was freshly pan-fried, with the meat and vegetables separated so the beef sits nicely on top. It’s the first time I’ve seen a lunch box done this way, and it made a big difference. The vegetables had just the right amount of oil — flavorful but not greasy.
The California roll was a standout too. Unlike many places that pull pre-made rolls straight from the fridge, these were fresh and at a perfect temperature. The size, portion, and balance between rice and fillings were spot on.
Then there was the tempura. It was made fresh to order, with a thin, delicate batter that gave the ideal ratio of crunch to softness. The coating actually stuck to the ingredients (unlike the thick, heavy, or flaky batter I’ve had elsewhere).
I still can’t believe how much thought and quality went into a $17 lunch box. Todai Sushi is doing it right — keep up the excellent work!“
