Reviews for Sushi Bar Maumi

The sushi is good but not mind-blowing. The Bafun uni was excellent, the rest didn't meet my expectations based on the hype. I also didn't notice the chef being particularly meticulous or skilled. Not to say he's bad - he just didn't stand out in my eyes which is a contrast to a lot of the other reviews.

One of the coolest dining experiences I've ever had! The restaurant is very small (only seats 10 people) and dining times are either at 6pm or 7:45pm each night. Because dining room is limited, be sure to make your reservation well in advance! Everyone gets Omakase consisting of 11 pieces of nigiri plus miso soup and green tea. Everyone is served at the same time, piece by piece, and the chef makes everything right in front of you! The chef was truly a master of his full review
A reverential sushi experience. The atmosphere is traditional Japanese, but with modern art and low-fi hip hop. The food is an exercise in simplicity with flawless execution. The subtle tension between textures and temperatures are controlled precisely, with only the highest quality and most masterfully prepared seafood. The experience is carefully and artfully curated, a one of a kind meal in Vancouver. Maumi's delicate sensibility makes Tojo's seem like a garish amusement park.
