“Until you stop here, you really don't fully understand why the owners named it Los Pinos, but once you do, the gigantic pines' presence is all you feel. For years, this was just a place I passed on my way to Arnold, but only recently did I stop and try the food. I used to live in the Mission in SF during the slacker 90s era, so I thought I knew what a good cheap burrito was. Easily, Los Pinos' pastor burritos, dolloped with a mixture of their tangy red and fiery green salsas is the best burrito I've ever had and it isn't even close. Their quesabirria is also a highlight. They don't skimp on the birria and the consomme is studded with even more birria. Everything is packed with flavor. Not as cheap as in the 90s, but well worth your tacqueria dollars.”

“After not having been up to Arnold in months and months after moving away, my daughter and I took an unexpected detour to the Creamery before heading to a concert by Grover Anderson behind the Bistro. (Which we never actually made it to) I was beyond delighted upon walking in to see three smiling and familiar faces. Childhood friends of my daughter, and like family to us, all grown up! Great job, Larry, for hiring such responsible, capable, friendly, and professional young ladies! Zero, Chloe, and KK, helping to keep the masses cooled down and refreshed with delicious ice cream, were immediately responsive and friendly when customers entered. I may be partial, and I'm sure my pride in the girls likely stems from remembering them as little toothless, pigtail wearing stinkers, and now seeing them as responsible young adults with jobs, interacting independently and politely, treating people with respect and kindness...(which I'm sure we all hope our children will do as they grow and mature and take on the world without us). Beyond that, it's so nice to see another locally owned business (hopefully) thriving in "our" small community. I'm looking forward to my next trip up the hill and stopping in for hugs and, of course some of that ice cream!
Kid-friendliness: It's an ice cream shop! Need I say more?”

“We ordered EL Vaquero catering for a large family party. I called and spoke to the manager Alde and she was very accommodating and helpful. We ordered chicken and asada for tacos, quesadillas, rice, beans and cheese enchiladas and everything was FABULOUS! Everyone loved the food. They even helped accommodate us when the pick up time changed the week of. We were very happy with El Vaquero and will definitely be back soon!”

“Four of us had dinner at the (new) Dogwood in Arnold. The food and service were excellent. The server knew the menu well and made great suggestions. We tried many things as this was our first time at the newly re-opened restaurant. We shared Arancini and the Steam Pot for appetizers, both very good, flavorful. Four steaks for the table, two rib-eyes with demi-glaze and two filets with herbed butter (you get a choice of sauces, sides like caramalized onions are offered too). There was a dessert special - chocolate cake with whipped peanut butter frosting, amazing! Absolutely get this if it's on the menu. A great experience overall, we will definitely be back.”

“Wow went to the soft opening for their “After Hours” dinners for Thursday - Saturday nights if I understand it correctly. Amazing Filipino-American cuisine. Chef Beverly is creating a dining experience that will change frequently and stay interesting and great. Everything we tasted today was fresh, original, and epically delicious! We definitely recommend checking it out!”

“The pizza is really good here, but the wait time can be a bit out of control at times. We tried to order on the app, but that didn't work. Tried to call and got put on hold for a long time eventually we just hung up and went in. On a Sunday evening it can be 1.5 hours for a single pepperoni medium pizza. Most pizza places put multiple pizzas through the oven at a time, but this place seems to put just one pizza in the oven at a time. I don't see many people eating here as it seems like there are more people waiting for pizza then actually eating. This is a great location and good pizza, hopefully the service can improve. It's amazing how patient everyone was waiting for them pizzas.
They ended up giving us a large instead of medium because of the long wait. We were grateful!”

“Food was decent, standard American fare. We got the chicken salad and Bavarian pretzels for starters, and two specialty pizzas: BREWS 'N QUES and BRATZILLA. Although the brews and ques came out with completely different ingredients than what we ordered (chicken instead of pork, no blue cheese or red onion). Food was good for four hungry people, but not great. Service is slow and the place was pretty empty for a Saturday night - only us and maybe 10 other people? Only one server who was also the bartender.”

“After a few days of exploring the cool little town of Murphy’s and numerous wine tasting stops, we fell in love with La Folia Winery. The shop on Main Street is a fantastic spot for great wines, amazing people and a bunch of nice hats. Our hostess Shannon was fabulous and fun, made us feel right at home. We are now members of their wine club and look forward to many more visits to La Folia and the Murphy’s area. Mark Elledge Aug 2023”

“I had rather accidently visited Ironstone Vineyards with my family years before, vowing to come back one day and give it the time it deserved. So I was thrilled when my couple booked me to photograph their wedding at Ironstone!
I would never have expected to find such a large venue in the charming but small community of Murphys. And yet this winery has emerged there as a concert venue, garden, tasting room--and quite importantly for my clients--a wedding venue.
Ironstone's varied spaces and lush gardens made the perfect spot for this intimate fall wedding. The bride and groom each had ready rooms that made it easy to relax and dress for the celebration. Meanwhile, a lengthy walkway covered by a trellis was a beautiful and unique choice for staging the wedding itself. And there were so many great opportunities for newlywed portraits in wooded areas, manicured park spaces along a pond, and even a covered bridge!
One particularly unique aspect of the wedding was hosting the reception in the barrel room: one part cavern, one part high ceilinged event space. The look was dim and romantic, the sound was wonderful, and the feel unforgettable.
The staff were also super helpful. They offered alternatives for where to host the ceremony when it appeared some rain might begin to fall. And another staffer shuttled the couple around on a golf cart to make life easier, allowing us to visit some of the more far-flung spaces on the grounds. It was clear they were invested in making this wedding a delight.
All that to say, as a I highly recommend Ironstone Vineyards for an entirely unique and picturesque wedding venue in Amador Wine Country!”

“One of the best restaurants in town. Food is always very good especially the portobello mushroom raviolis. Eric is a very good waiter and very attentive. Inside or outside is comfortable. Outside has heaters and clear plastic to cover the openings in the winter.”

“Heart & Soul is my favorite restaurant! The food is fantastic and the service is even better. I have ordered many different breakfast items and have not been disappointed, but the eggs Benedict with cajun hollandaise sauce really take the cake for me. You need to try them to know how perfect they are. The flavors of everything they make are thoughtful and take your palate that extra mile. Conner, the owner, couldn't be sweeter, always catering to dietary restrictions and offering recommendations for daily activities. Try out Heart & Soul--you'll be glad you did!”
