“We had my dad’s retirement party here at JJ’s Island Grindz and our host was Ellis I cannot speak highly enough on the service he provided for us it will be unmatched. He treated us like family, very attentive, very respectful, on time with everything very professional. “Located near the sdsu campus, this location is accessible to students and community members alike. The food was fresh and the katsu had a delectable crutch that left a good taste in my mouth. The cashier was a kind soul that made our L & L experience one that we’ll never forget.“

“I ordered 2 create your own bowl, the fish is really good but their portions aren't satisfying. The fish portions are good you get 2 choices but the rice is like nothing. They give you a choice between double rice or rice and seaweed salad, id recommended the double rice but then you get no seaweed salad. Compared to other poke places, they don't offer topping like the crunchy onion or sesame seeds. Overall it taste good and the scenery is really comforting, the worker seemed a bit distracted or annoyed though.“

“Wow, this place rocks really good Hawaiian food at a reasonable price they even have Happy Dad hard seltzer here which makes me super happy! They have a value menu for $12.99 with a drink between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM Monday through Friday. You can get a Katsu bowl or a teriyaki bowl or a wrap or a mini plate or a cheeseburger or three Musubis. You can have it to go or eat it here, but it has a little Hawaiian vibe here for sure lots of food good price quality stuff. Definitely pay them a visit and try one of the happy dads they have.“

“My food was not horrible, but not tender and had no sauce it was dry. The macaroni salad was ok. When I ate a bite of beef with the macaroni salad, it was great. I had two scoops of rice and only one macaroni salad. It would be nice to have a choice“

“I love L&L and frequent different locations often. The Palm Ave location just cannot seem to get an entire order correct and it’s frustrating because I know the service expectation of the brand. Give them some guidance on preparing multiple meals correctly for a single order.

“I'm hapa, live on the East Coast and I'm always looking for a solid Hawaiian food place when visiting family in Chula Vista. Obviously my dad and auntie make the best Hawaiian food but the flavors of the Mac salad, Teri chicken and kalbi reminded me of home. Will definitely be back.“

“Overall, this La Mesa location it’s not too bad. It’s pretty good. The barbecue beef again. This is a college area and yet this one in La Mesa beats the one located in La Jolla so something‘s going on over in the expensive area where they’re cheating the value or the quality where you have El Cajon and now here in La Mesa much better quality service is pretty good in the atmosphere. It’s it’s giving me that Hawaiian vibe a little bit so watch out expensive living areas you gotta pick up your game and stop being cheap.“

“Small place but great food if you like the Hawaiian vibe. The Katsu's are tasty and super crispy! Reminds me of places I've been in Hawaii and Japan. They have some fun selections for beverages and dessert. It can get crazy busy but worth the wait.“

“Everyone in our house used to like poke. After we found Poke Chop, we LOVE poke! They have so many options of fish and sauces and toppings. I’ve never found as big of a selection. My daughter would eat here every day if I’d let her. There aren’t many places in Hillcrest where a family of 3 can get dinner for around $30, and be totally stuffed, and not feel blah afterwards. The fish is always really fresh. The only thing that could make it better is if they added mango, mmmmm. We try to eat there as much as possible because it will be a very sad day if they close. It's almost great, but the dark meat is almost always over cooked. It tastes like it was scraped of the grill. Imagine if there was left over grime in a skillet. It just tastes charcoaly“

“Good protein options. I went at a not too busy time of day so I also got to quietly sit and enjoy the meal. I only had the PYOP so I can only say that I enjoyed that, but I am sure everything else on the menu is good as well“

“Never been to Hawaii and now I don't have to 😁 I got the plain, guava, and Bavarian cream. They were really good and the coffee was bomb. My Bavarian cream had a little chocolate on it and I was not mad at that. If they had a mix, I would get it. Donut was fluffy and not oily tasting.“

“Overall their poke is really good and their boba drink is good :) I just wish they kept their miso soup as an option since I felt that it was a huge inconvenience to remove it at the time I needed their soup the most and there wasn’t any explicit announcement about it too. It didn’t really help that it was on the menu and that they said they removed it as I wanted to order it.“

“I ordered pinakbet, chicharon bulaklak, and menudo for pick-up from Carlitos Family Restaurant, and everything was delicious! The flavors brought me right back to home-cooked meals from my childhood. When I walked in, I was welcomed by a warm, family-style setting—and even karaoke was happening! It felt nostalgic and comforting, like stepping into a family gathering. Although I only grabbed takeout this time, I’m definitely planning to dine in next time to soak in more of that vibe.

Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Filipino food with a side of good energy. 🍽️🎤🇵🇭

“The only negative I have to say is the location. However the food was great. I got the short ribs. The meat was tender. My partner got that katsu and it's the crunch that gets me. Delicious. The Mac salad was good too. No weird after taste of fish oil that I've had at other places.“
