About Chez Noir

Chez Noir is a European-inspired bistro located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, known for its coastal California cuisine and exceptional fine dining experience. The restaurant was awarded one Michelin star in 2023. The menu offers a variety of dishes, including Double 8 Dairy Stracciatella, Chilled Oysters, Dungeness Crab Tortelloni, Mt. Lassen Trout, Superior Farms Lamb Rack, and a Paris-Brest dessert. The food is highly praised, with the Dungeness Crab Tortelloni being a standout dish. Customers often mention the warm and lively atmosphere, along with attentive yet casual service. The wine list is extensive, although red options by the glass are limited. The brioche bread service is a pleasant surprise. The Paris-Brest dessert is a highlight with its chocolate, pistachio, and orange flavors. Many guests find the chef and his brigade to be very talented, creating memorable experiences. The restaurant also offers small complimentary treats, like a chocolate chip cookie, and occasionally provides extras such as dessert or champagne to guests. Overall, Chez Noir provides a top-quality dining experience, making it a preferred destination for those seeking refined French cuisine made with exceptional local ingredients.

An excellent dining experience, from start to finish. You can taste the quality of the ingredients and the flavor combinations blew our minds. The attention to detail in each dish clearly showed the tremendous passion of the staff in the kitchen. Truly an incredible 4 course meal and I highly recommend it for any special occasion. What a visit!

Exceptional experience,

Booked an evening here on our anniversary, sat outside and it was lovely (we were worried about being cold, but the heaters actually made it very warm). It’s an intimate dining experience, with just the right amount of “fancy” - everything feels comfortable yet elevated. The owners live onsite - they put everything into this place and it shows. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. Extremely special spot worthy of a destination culinary experience....read full review
