Chez Noir is a European-inspired bistro located in Carmel-by-the-Sea, known for its coastal California cuisine and exceptional fine dining experience. The restaurant was awarded one Michelin star in 2023. The menu offers a variety of dishes, including Double 8 Dairy Stracciatella, Chilled Oysters, Dungeness Crab Tortelloni, Mt. Lassen Trout, Superior Farms Lamb Rack, and a Paris-Brest dessert. While the food is generally well-received, there are some critiques. The Stracciatella is slightly over-salted, the trout's accompanying sauce is more like hollandaise, and the Spring 2024 menu is heavily citrus-forward, which may not appeal to everyone. The Dungeness Crab Tortelloni, however, is a standout dish. The service is attentive, and the ambiance is warm and inviting. The wine list is extensive, but the by-the-glass options for reds are limited. The brioche bread service is a pleasant surprise. For dessert, the Paris-Brest is a highlight with its chocolate, pistachio, and orange flavors. Despite minor critiques, Chez Noir delivers a memorable dining experience, making it a destination for refined French cuisine made with exceptional local ingredients.
