Barbeque Restaurants in Chico

“Last Friday, we came by to rent a storage unit and ended up staying for a late lunch at CJ's. What a hidden gem in north Chico! It's no frills counter service, with a large dining room, and open kitchen. I appreciate being able to see the clean kitchen & prep area with my own eyes. I ordered a grilled chicken salad - it was huge, overflowing with tons of fresh toppings. The staff was hustling through a rush, and yet they were all so attentive and nice. CJ's is a Pepsi establishment, which makes my Diet Coke loving heart a little sad... but the food more than makes up for it. Now I need to time my storage unit runs around lunch hour so I can work my way through the menu! A burger will be next :)“

“This was some of the best barbecue I've ever had in my life. It's hard to find good barbecue in California and every part of this was obviously a passion project - the meat was cooked to perfection, the seasoning was amazing, the baked beans were literally the best restaurant baked beans I've ever had, the bbq sauce was a perfect blend of sweet and tangy, and both the sweet tea and watermelon lemonade were perfect accompaniments - Wayne also definitely knew what he was doing, making clear recommendations to help us get the best out of the meal. This is not the place for dollar menu-aires or a cheap meal, but it's reasonably priced for what it is - extremely high quality, well-cooked meat in good portions. The only downside is the location isn't the best, but it's also clear a lot of effort has been put into maintaining it and keeping it inviting - and hey, it's clear that he's putting that extra money into the quality meat he's serving, completely worth it. 11/10 would go there again and recommend to all my friends.“

“First time coming in today 4/12/26 and it blew my mind. Ordered the chicken katsu meal and the BBQ plate that included eveything. Chicken was cooked perfect and the BBQ beef was tender as can be. If I could critique anything, The beef short ribs were a little tough but tasted amazing!! I would 100% recommend to anyone.“

“I think their restaurant is permanently closed and they only do catering now, but I wanted to leave a review because these guys and Mo's were the best BBQ places in town and now they're both gone. Honestly, I actually don't think there are any BBQ places left now. This place was amazing, 10/10 and their meats were always juicy on the inside with a nice char on the outside. They will be sorely missed.“

“The Beaver has very nom drinks. They usually sell whiskey and moonshine, but Bella there is an awesome bartender and makes you feel at home. This is also another bar that does allows dogs (or cats) on a leash. The food they serve here is amazing as well. Very good place to visit for a drink.“

“I just ordered from the owner and not only did he help me pick what to order for lunch Tomarrow he accommodated my needs for separating the foods. Very kind small family owned business. A western bbq feel. I’ll try and update once I eat the food. Multiple door dash orders. While waiting for my food so I would say it’s worth the try!“

“First ever visit and more then likely my last......I was only there to rent a U-Haul from the store but I can say it's a very cool and interesting place to stop by looks like they have a bit of everything and the lady I spoke with was nice and friendly and very professional got us checked in and confirmed and outta there in no time we were driving off. Nice place!“
