“Where do you go when you’ve watched too much kdramas and you start salivating when the characters stary drinking soju with fried chicken??? Vons!!! That’s where I go at least. It’s the only korean place I know that’s at least a 10 min walk from our place. It never fails to satisfy my craving… and when you get there, the big screen tv is always playing some kdrama. I do wish they had more variety with the diahea they offer but then again the simplicity of the menu is what makes the service quick.
Von’s is clean and a refreshing change from the usual chinese, japanese or mexican fare that’s quite common in the area.
Service is quick and staff are friendly. Owned and run by an actual korean - there you go! You can’t get anymore authentic than that!

“I went there on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered online and picked up and they got every little detail perfect. I forgot my bike lock and the staff were nice enough to let me put my bike inside while eating. Food was delicious and there's plenty of dip and one of those fancy soda machines that lets you pick among a huge number of sodas. There are no trash cans which I find a bit disconcerting (they pick up your trash for you) but that's okay. I also liked the radio station they had on. Seating is limited but it was fine and peaceful at the time that I went there.“

“The pizza was great, and I was happy they had gluten free crust (not sure if it’s celiac though). It wasn’t crowded at all, and I was happy to have this option right next to zareen’s so my friend and I could get what we wanted.

The pepperoni in particular was amazing.

It did take 15 minutes or so for the pizza to be done, so just order ahead or stroll while you wait.

I also wish it were slightly cheaper, but I realize that the gf crusts adds a bit. Super grateful for the option though!

Welcome back to another episode of Local Eats For People Who Know Better, and today’s star is none other than Mountain Mike’s in Menlo Park. A Bay Area staple. The kind of spot that doesn’t need to reinvent itself every three years. No sourdough crust, no “Neapolitan-style artisan fire-kissed flatbread.” Just heat, cheese, carbs, and memories from a simpler, pre-smartphone era.

Before you even walk inside, the aroma creeping across that Main Street intersection hits you with the force of a Chuck E. Cheese pizza siren. A primal call. A scent that grabs your childhood by the collar and drags it out of hiding. By the time you pull the door open, you’re already halfway transported to 1998, seatbelt optional.

Inside, nothing tries to impress you—and that’s exactly why it slaps. No animatronic rodents. No LED menus. No QR-code ordering labyrinth with a “20 percent tip for literally handing you a cup” prompt. This place is a preserved time capsule: warm, chaotic, stubborn, and beautifully unfancy.

We pulled up on a Thursday and ordered a large cheese pizza with jalapeños to split like joint custody. Bless the pizza gods, because it just so happened to be half-off large pizza night. Destiny. Fate. Providence. Whatever it was, we didn’t question it.

We wandered into the arcade corner to kill some time, and the lineup is exactly what you’d expect from a place running on pure tradition. A graveyard of mostly fighting games, modded cabinets held together by prayer, controllers drifting harder than a 1994 Civic on bald tires. Street Fighter Turbo, MK1/Trilogy, NFL Blitz, Golden Tee, X-Men 4-player, Deer Hunt. Free play, baby. Calibrate your expectations… because the joysticks definitely aren’t calibrated.

Slightly charred bottom, yeast-forward crust, cheese melted into a perfect golden blanket, jalapeños sprinkled with the kind of confidence only a seasoned pizza vet possesses. Whoever was working back-of-house that Thursday deserves a medal. The pizza did what pizza is supposed to do: slap.

The front-of-house team held it down too. Two cashiers greeting customers with actual warmth instead of that dead-behind-the-eyes “I hate my job and everyone in this building” retail energy we’ve all survived. Hospitality wasn’t forced. Smiles weren’t fake. Management clearly runs a disciplined ship, and everyone—from the register to the oven—pulled their weight.

Overall? I’d take a fresh, steamy slice from Mike’s over Round Table next door any day of the week. Between the nostalgia, the customer service, the arcade lineup held together with duct tape, and the old-school Menlo Park charm, this spot still honors tradition in all the right ways.

There’s nothing more American than inhaling a cheese or pepperoni slice while chugging a Mountain Dew, wondering where your life went wrong and also feeling comforted at the same time.

It is your constitutional right to bear pizza.

And Mountain Mike’s Menlo Park is still out here defending that right with pride.“

“I ordered the Pacific veggie pizza, and it was so yummy. The crust was crispy yet chewy, the sauce tasted incredibly fresh, and the toppings were top-tier. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy inside, and had a really nice flavor without being overly greasy. The fries were fresh and hot, which is always a plus. “Earlier this week on Sunday, I was craving some Korean fried Chicken, which I never had before. I did a search on Google and came across Bonchon in San Mateo. The first experience I had, I was not happy with my order because it was not accurate. I ordered an 8 piece, but only received a 4 piece and because it’s through a 3rd party nothing could be done. I decided on Monday I would order this time directly from the restaurant. Everything worked out, and I have to tell you even though my order was not right the first time? This did not take away from the quality of the food. I ordered the drumsticks extra crunch? No sauce, and the first time I ordered with fried rice, both were excellent. The seasoning, it was rich with flavor, and I have absolutely no complaints. The second time on Monday I ordered the same chicken a 4 piece, the corn with the mayonnaise, cheese and red pepper flakes, with a side of steamed rice. Everything was just perfect. I’m not kidding you it’s taking everything in me to control myself from ordering more today, and it’s just Tuesday. It’s just that good! Whoever the chefs are, you can taste the love in their cooking, it’s not just thrown together. There is Love in their food, and know this because my Mom’s food is just the same. Every bite is good. I don’t say these things lightly when it comes to restaurants. There’s not too many that impress me like this. All I can say is keep the love in your food, and don’t change the quality even if you have a million customers, don’t change your food. 5/5 for me, it’s a must try if you love fried chicken or Korean food. I don’t have pictures this time, maybe next time if I can upload I will. The chicken is so crunchy that even when it’s cold it’s still good and crunchy and not soggy. That is when you know food is good, when it gets cold and it’s just as good. Thank you so much for listening.“

“We ordered this Pizza Hut box for a chill dinner night, and honestly, it was a good amount of food for the price. The pizzas were solid — the pepperoni was definitely the favorite. The mushroom one was okay, not my thing personally, but my husband liked it.
The breadsticks were soft and buttery, super kid-friendly, and they disappeared fast. The only miss for us was the pasta. None of us really liked the Alfredo sauce — it was kind of heavy and just didn’t taste great. My kids would’ve been way happier with plain pasta and a little cheese on top, something simple.
Overall, not bad for a quick family meal. Just probably wouldn’t order the pasta again.

Before this place was a Wingstop it was a place called, Pancho’s Mexican Cafe.

The interior apparently earned them a National Design Award from Institutions Magazine in the 1960s. I could see why. It looked like a lot of time, thought and love went into designing the inside. The chandeliers, log ceiling, and the mural are all pretty amazing.“

I normally don’t buy Papa John’s pizza because I feel they’re a little pricey but honestly, I must’ve forgotten why. The ingredients really do taste better. Everything was delicious. The red sauce was so good. I’m a Alfredo person but dang delicious. Glad I switched it up. I ordered a barbecue chicken pizza and a super Hawaiian. I tried both and thought both were delicious, also they don’t skimp on toppings. Good service they asked if I wanted Parmesan, pepper, napkins, plates. No missing garlic dipping cups or peppers everything was right. Staff was super friendly professional, and helped me with using my Groupon bucks because I couldn’t figure it out. Amazing staff!“
