A dear friend insisted I try the pineapple coconut cakes, ordering four and telling me “you will see.” That level of confidence immediately raised my curiosity and it absolutely delivered.

From the moment I walked in, the staff set the tone. They were kind, informative, patient, and genuinely welcoming. That level of service matters, and they got it right.

I initially ordered four plates and appreciated the menu variety, especially seeing whole chicken wings offered. But the real moment came when I sampled the shrimp in my car. It was outstanding. Perfectly seasoned, flavorful, and memorable.

I turned right back around and ordered an additional plate with catfish and shrimp, and that sealed it for me. The shrimp are 🔥🔥🔥!

“This spot is a food truck completely covered in graffiti and permanently stationed inside the parking lot of a convenience store. You’ll need a keen eye to find them, but the Hotboys name and logo are on that truck. I had to do a second take to be sure I was in the right place. Also, other folks walking past the food truck was my only clue that there’s a nook with more tables nearby.

I could swear that the chicken tender meal has more chicken than the sandwich, and those were THICK tenders, let me tell you. Each one had to weigh at least 4 ounces. You can’t see it, but the tenders come with a piece of Texas-toast-style white bread and pickles on the side.

I decided to give my tear ducts a break and went for Medium this time. I teared up once . . . but I swear it was the sun. LOL. For me, including toast is extraneous, as I ordered a chicken tender combo specifically to avoid bread. But a plain slice of white bread is a very southern touch, so I can’t hand out a demerit for my personal preference. I just didn’t eat it.

The crinkle-cut fries come tossed in an addicting and light Cajun seasoning. They’re served with the same money dipping sauce that comes on top of the sandwich. I liked it more for dipping than poured on the sandwich.“

“I’ve been eating Pizza Factory pizza for over 15 years. It was the only pizza joint in my town while growing up. Since moving to the Bay Area 10 years ago I’ve missed the classic taste of the pizza! “Probably the best fried chicken in the area. It’s juicy, crispy yet crunchy, not too oily, and doesn’t seem to give me heartburn after consuming. The downsides are that they don’t have real fries, only wedges, and the large mashed potatoes really did not have enough gravy. The sauces are also extra. Their biscuits are one of the best, though, with honey baked in, hitting that perfect flaky / crumbly biscuit texture.

The location is a bit weird, being inside a gas station. The wait can get long (~25 minutes) if they have to fry more chicken, so call and order ahead for pickup.“
