About Canaan Cafe

Canaan Cafe offers a variety of tasty dishes, including the flavorful beef noodle soup with generous beef chunks and perfectly cooked noodles. The green onion pancakes and veggie fried rice are also popular choices, with many customers praising the onion pancakes and garlic string beans as fantastic. The restaurant is a Taiwanese/Chinese fusion spot, which works surprisingly well. While the stinky tofu may not be for everyone, as some find its smell and taste overwhelming, the Canaan special pork chops are decent, and the salt n pepper pork chops are recommended. Customers have enjoyed dishes like spicy wontons, fish fillet, filet mignon cubes, and the dim sum, which are all praised for their flavor and quality. The staff is very nice and attentive, always ready to assist with any questions. The place is clean yet small, so getting there early on weekends is advised to avoid a wait. Canaan Cafe also offers amazing lunch combos that include a main, rice, and a drink starting at $15. The location is in a small strip mall that does not face the main road, so it’s important to keep an eye out for the sign. There is a parking lot right in front, but it is somewhat limited. The cafe has a loyal base of regulars and consistently delivers good food, with a new location expected to open in the peninsula center in Palos Verdes by the end of 2025.

Being in West LA makes it hard to find good Taiwanese foods. Canaan Cafe offers really authentic Beef Noodle Soup and decent Stinky Tofu. The beef noodle soup seemed to be prepared with different part of beef (brisket, shank, and maybe some short rib?) and a broth with proper bone and aromatic flavors. I appreciate the efforts

I ordered the vegetable and meat wonton soup; I had expected the vegetables to be inside the wontons along with the meat, but instead, the greens were in the broth while the meat was in the wontons—a pleasant surprise! 😋 It was a satisfying meal regardless; the wontons were plump and meaty with a great texture, and a splash of vinegar made the broth taste even more savory. I had a busy schedule of eyelash appointments today, so by the time I managed to slip away...read full review
