Service was excellent, very hands on. Atmosphere is perfect being within the plaza at PCH in 2nd St. The food was way too salty and should be addressed.
Food is great! Prices are a little high but it’s worth it every once in awhile!
Amazing experience over 4th of July weekend. Perfect location kiddos were able to run in the open space/water fountain area right in front of patio seating. Everything we got from the chicken dish, sesame noodles, chicken soup, and assorted dumplings was delicious. Our kids kept asking us to order more chicken dumplings lol. Exceptional friendly service. Highly recommend.

Located in a charming area near the Huntington Library, Dan Modern Chinese is a true gem. The food is prepared fresh and with authenticity, and the restaurant does not use MSG. The staff, including servers and managers, are always so nice and make everyone feel welcome. The vibe is very laid back, with a patio and parking directly across the way.
The menu offers something for most dietary restrictions, including GF and vegan options. Favorites include the best vegetable dumplings ever, pork and shrimp soup dumplings, pork and shrimp steamed dumplings, and the Spicy Pork Soup Dumplings. The egg fried rice is so simple but so good, and the string beans are a standout. Other delicious dishes include the Black Pepper Beef, Short Rib Dan Mein, Popcorn Shrimp, crispy tofu, mapo dofu, and three cup chicken. The green peppercorn pilsner and jasmine ice tea are also great choices. The xiao long bao has an insanely flavorful presence with a broth clarity and a tender dumpling wrapper with great structural integrity. This restaurant never disappoints and is highly recommended for a fantastic experience.
