“My experience at Dave's hot chicken was good. The staff are extremely friendly and social and the atmosphere is warm and exiting with amazing outdoor seating. Me and my peer got a soft drink, fries, tenders, and a chicken slider all of them extra spicy. Extra spicy is like a 7/10 for me (my spice tolerance is kinda mid but better than the average). The fries and chicken were crunchy but the food is quite greasy. Chicken is heavily seasoned. We went finished the food at around 1 pm and our stomachs started hurting. Its 10:35 PM right now and my stomach still hurted. Both had an irritated stomachand I had to take medicine for the pain to go away. Overall, would reccomend to people that can take the spice and are enjoyers of heavily seasoned and greasy foods. However, people who cannot tolerate spice, grease, and HEAAAVILY seasons foods should not come here. Praying for anyone who's stomach gets upset by this chicken ????“

The chicken pieces were very tender and juicy with a profound crispness. Overall a really delicious fried chicken meal and the garlic sauce took it to the top.The sweet potato fries were descent but wish there was some type of creamy sweet sauce to dip with it. The chicken is nice clean white meat not with all that excess fat you get at most places. I love that they sell the sauce bottled for you to cook at home. “Dined in at 2pm on a Friday and there wasn't anyone else in the restaurant. I was greeted by the worker at the register. She asked if I was dining in or take out and I told her "dine in." I was seated and given the menu, plates, utensils, and even pickled radish right away. I took some time to study the menu and both workers checked in to see if I wanted any recommendations. One of the guys was very knowledgeable about the wing sauces and the menu but I didn't get his name. Eventually I gave them my order and I waited about 5 minutes and my food came out one at a time. Cheesling Fries (9/10) - The cheese powder on the fries were amazing! It wasn't too overpowering or too cheesy. The fries were hot and crispy. They even drizzle it in the secret sauce. It was very well balanced together. Rose Ddeok-Bokki (8/10) - The first few bites tasted like it needed more seasoning and flavor. The more I ate it, the better it got. It was not spicy for me and it was a great combination of creamy with a small but of tang. The rice cakes were soft and chewy. It was also very delicious overall.Secret Sauce Wings (8.5/10) - The chicken wings were very fresh. The batter was still crispy and the sauce was sweet, tangy, and sticky. It reminded me of my favorite childhood Chinese dish, Peking Pork Chop or sweet and sour pork chop. It did get soggy once the wings sat too long. Soy Garlic Wings (7.5/10) - The soy flavor overpowered the garlic in these wings but overall a really solid choice. The wings were also hot and crispy with a sweet and salty sauce. Overall, the food is 8/10. The service was 10/10. They checked in with me at least every 10-15 minutes. They gave me napkins without asking for it. I had a very pleasant experience!“

I've been coming to this El Pollo Loco for several years now and I've been impressed at the consistency of the customer service and food quality. It's not usually a hallmark of any fast food type establishment to provide any type of customer service beyond the minimum since hey, the food is cheap and quick, what more can one expect? But this place stood out because everytime I've gone, whether it's busy or slow, there's always a manager working the counter with a smile, even going so far as to see how you're doing. It's not surprising that the service was good, but a pleasant surprise because it has been consistently good. Also, the chicken is decently tasty and again, consistent in quality every time I order. I've had everything from their chicken meals to their stuffed Quesadillas, paired with both their spicy avocado and pico de gallo salsas, they're all delicious. Now is it the BEST tasting chicken or the most juicy chicken out there? No, but for the cost and it being fast food, it's pretty damn good, not too salty, not too dry, just a decent amount of seasoning and juiciness to satisfy my appetite. Also, if you download the app, there are always some sort of special deals going on, not to mention the rewards points actually accumulate quickly enough to land you a free meal. “It has been over 10 years since my original review and with changes in palate, experiences, and my relationship with food over the last decade, I wanted to come back to share that my thoughts about this restaurant have never changed. Dong Nguyen remains home to comfort Chinese/Vietnamese style cuisine. I still get the hainan chicken + pork chop rice combo. Staff still greet me with excitement and warmth. Minor noticeable differences: - The pork chop is no longer bone-in. I've notice in my last several visits that they've started to serve it deboned and cut up. Some inconsistencies in flavor and texture, but nothing significant. - Because of the pandemic, they had to close down the restaurant for some time. This led to a restructure that affected staff and the way the business operated. Once reopened, service was take-out only for a long time. When the business finally introduced dine-in service back to the public, most of the staff did not return. This definitely changed the ambience of the dining experience as the once hustle and bustle of customers/staff and steady sounds of the door chime are now far and few between. While it makes me a bit sad, I'd like to think all the changes in the last few years have shifted customers to adapt to phone orders and takeout and that the business is still flourishing. Please continue to support small businesses like this one. I would be heartbroken if this establishment were to ever close its doors in my lifetime. One other thing that surprisingly has not changed -- CASH ONLY! I'd also like to note that Dong Nguyen and Savoy have very different takes on their hainan chicken dishes and I've grown to like and appreciate them both. “Poached chicken (Hainan chicken 海南鸡) is at the best (9/10), most delicious I had in a while, as we always order it as an appetizer in Chinese restaurants.It’s hard to understand the greatness if you have not tried to perfect it as a home chef. Poached chicken is considered one of the most difficult. It needs to be tender, flavorful and juicy. The tenderness comes from the perfect timing in cooking which YouTube has lots of videos I am able to follow. However it’s hard to achieve the rich flavor of the poached chicken at home which requires (1) a rich soup where you repeatedly dipped and poached the chicken (2) sourcing the high quality free-ranged chicken while average home chefs like myself who buys the chicken from Asian market or a butcher in Chinatown. AND the most difficult and missing in most Chinese restaurants is the gelatinous juiciness. It’s a thin gelatinous texture layered between its meat and skin which is done by perfecting the cooling process. I believe most good Cantonese and Shanghainese chef knows how to achieve it but it’s too much of work to do it in most restaurants. I admit I have been little show-off my love and understanding of the poached chicken. But I am really amazed with what they have done here beyond my expectations.The set comes with the tasty chicken rice which is cooked with garlic/ shallots and chicken fat. It can also be order without the rice as one quarter ($12), half ($22) and as a whole ($32, which is little pricey, but definitely worth it as it is the best I had in US. Just a friendly reminder, their chicken is traditionally served with bones, following the customary Chinese presentation found in many Chinese restaurants.The second must have dish/ desert is their Coconut Custard/ pudding（椰子奶冻）in a whole coconut. It’s a first for us. We were surprised to discover it have tow layers, one clear and one milky. It is not so sweet with pleasant aroma of the coconut. As it is presented in a whole coconut makes it very unique and highly recommended. I ordered the takeaway of their ginger milk custard（姜汁撞奶）which is considered another signature sweet of theirs.The other dish we ordered with their French stir fry beef fillet（法式牛柳饭）with onion fried rice in red. It is very tasty. I have had them in some Vietnamese restaurants and couple fancy Chinese restaurants. The meat was tender and the taste were sweet and savory. We enjoyed it.Their house daily special soup is also very delicious to have. The one we had is pork soup with watercress and dry Chinese apricots（例汤：南北杏西洋菜瘦肉）which Cantonese Chinese believes it is good for internal balance of body wellness. The daily special soup（例汤）at most restaurants is cooked for hours. I hav seen they have coconut chicken soup on the menu and wish to order next trip there.We stepped in this pleasant surprise finding by chance. We were at the famous Taiwanese tea shop “Chi Cha San Chan” (8/10) next door. Since we were still full from an over ordered lunch in “Sushi GEN” (9/10 for its food only), we want something simple and comforting. However the menu is nothing simple as we have expected initially. Although it doesn’t have those expensive live sea food, it is a full extended menu with most of the traditional comforting food includes beef briskets noodles, pork wontons, beef stir fry rice noodles and most of the dishes you can find in an authentic Chinese restaurant. The boss lady is very nice speaks both mandarin and Cantonese. She reminds my of one the old TVB movie actress. I highly recommend this place as home chef and foodie.Vegetarian options: Large selection of vegetarian offerings. When I realized, I called them immediately and thankfully, they had it. Since I couldn't retrieve it during the week and I live far away, they kindly agreed to hold onto it for me.On Monday, they not only confirmed they still had my bag but also offered to ship it to me! A generous employee even took the time to go to the post office. The restaurant was most likely going to cover the costs for my shipping by I insisted on covering the shipping costs since I needed my bag ASAP (I got overnight shipping).
