Long Men Bay Hotpot 龙门湾 is considered the best hot pot in the Bay Area, even better than some places in NYC. The soup base and food are of high quality. There are 2 kinds of spicy soup base, and the regular one is more fragrant than the “Chongqing special” one. The mild spicy level is enough for most people, otherwise it is too spicy. The spicy pot is flavorful and rich. The medicinal chicken broth is a favorite, and the spicy butter broth is only for mild spice. The tomato hot pot and mushroom hot pot are good. The fresh beef and egg platter is very delicious. The super thin tofu skin is heavenly dipped in the spicy pot. Portion sizes for crab sticks, fish tofu, vegetables, and mushrooms are larger than other places. The self-service sauce bar has tasty clams and costs around $2-$3 per person. The staff is quick, cheerful, and attentive, though there is only one waiter on weekdays. On weekends it gets crowded, so showing up at opening is recommended.
