Most McDonald’s workers don’t have access to paid sick or family and medical leave. As a consumer and customer, I’m deeply concerned about the safety of workers, their families, and our communities. McDonald’s says it believes that Black Lives Matter, but by failing to give all workers access to paid leave, McDonald’s is forcing its Black and Brown workforce to choose between receiving a paycheck or risking their health during a global pandemic. You don't get to say Black Lives Matter as an empty statement. You have to mean it. You have to extend health care and sick leave to your employees. You have to pay a living wage. If you treat your Black employees without dignity, proper pay, or basic safety, you show that their lives do not matter to you. You are placing profits above people and we will hold you accountable for it.
Owners and management can well afford to treat their employees better. My family and I will not go to your facility until employees have paid family, sick and medical leave.
