Richmond Eats Salvadoran • $
1508 Macdonald Ave, Richmond

“The pupusas here have got to be the best in the world. I was floored. There is so much good food in Richmond, and then I ate the pupusas here and it’s a whole other level. Plus they’re huge, fresh, and cheap. I went back three times last week.“

“The food is consistent, sometimes consistently decent, and other times consistently underwhelming and lack of variety. It is still the best and closest option out of all of Berkeley dining halls considering how close it is to the dormitories.“

Clark Kerr Dining Cafeteria • $
2601 Warring St, Berkeley - 7.32 miles

“This is definitely the most unique dining hall. Croads feels like a giant food court in a mall. Cafe 3 feels like a typical dining hall at any school. Foothill - I'd say it feels like a hotel lodge. I'm not sure what Clark Kerr's vibe is, but it's definitely different.

Quality of food here is also excellent, and you get some really good options. Seating might be a little tight but it's not so horrible. Nice vibes, nice area, and it's just pretty enjoyable.“

Café 3 Cafeteria • $
2400 Durant Ave, Berkeley - 6.72 miles

“Cafe 3 is my favorite dining hall on campus. Keep in mind that I'm unable to visit dining halls like Clark Kerr and Foothill due to their distance, but I've found that it's better than Crossroads and Golden Bear Cafe. Although Brown's offers good food, it isn't all you can eat, leaving me hungry in the end. Cafe 3's buffet-style operation, friendly staff, and cozy atmosphere make it the perfect environment for my study sessions. And when it gets a bit crowded and loud, there are outside seating options where it isn't as much of a problem. When the harsh bright lighting of Croads makes me feel like a bug on an examination table, Cafe 3's ambient yellows and earthy browns makes me feel right at home.

Although the food options can be somewhat limited and repetitive, it's still overall very good. In the mornings, they have plenty of plant-based foods, but when lunch or dinner come around, it can be a bit more difficult to find something if you are vegan. The plant-based foods leave something to be desired, but they are rather filling. Dessert options for vegans can be very limited sometimes; and although they'll always have something available for you, it might just be an oatmeal cookie, which isn't very appealing compared to the pies and cakes that others get to enjoy more frequently than you. The saving grace of Cafe 3 for a vegan is the salad bar, stocked with all kinds of veggies. My go-to salad, if you'll withhold your judgement of my tastes, consists of lettuce, corn, black beans, beets, cucumber, and chickpeas.“

Broadway Cafe Cafeteria •

“Kaiser Permanente Broadway Cafe*****Food: Excellent cafeteria food made with fresh and healthy ingredients. They have hot dishes, fresh fruit, coffee, antioxidant drinks, a beverage bar, a soup bar, cookies, and low-calorie ice cream.***** Ambience: Really good for cafeteria. There is lots of space for social distancing. There are also large windows that you can sit by and watch the world by.**** Cost: is reasonable.*** Accessibility: there is great access for people in wheelchairs. Parking can be difficult during busy times of the day. There is an eight story parking garage that took me 15 minutes to find a parking spot at 11 in the morning on a Thursday.***** Service: it is self service for the coffee, the drinks, fresh fruit, packaged items, and the hot food is served by servers that are behind the counter. Check out with the cashier is easy.Bonus points for having large, well labeled bins for disposal of compostable items and trash. Also, the restaurant looked impeccably clean.“
