“Let me preface this with saying I love our local bar and the bartenders. However, we usually don’t make it to the dance floor when it’s the same boring overplayed former top 40 hits (Starships, Gasolina, Uptown Funk, Shots, etc.)... I don't know where they found him, but we were blown away by the DJ they had spinning last night, DJ Mario. He was so good, we danced all night 🕺🕺🕺🕺, he even played some edm tracks. SO GOOD, bring him back!!“

“My grandson recently came out as gay and asked me to accompany him to Faces in Sacramento. I will admit that I initially hesitated. I am a fairly religious person, and stepping into a gay club was certainly outside the boundaries of what I had traditionally considered familiar territory. Nevertheless, how could I say no to my grandson, who recently turned 35 and happens to be my only grandson?

So, much to my own surprise, I went—and, even more surprisingly, they let me in! My grandson and I ended up having an absolutely wonderful time. The atmosphere was lively, and everyone we encountered was remarkably welcoming and kind. I never once felt as though I did not belong there simply because I was older or because I was unfamiliar with the environment.

Would I necessarily return on my own? Probably not. But that is beside the point. Going with my grandson gave me an experience I may never have otherwise had, and I am genuinely grateful that I allowed myself to step outside of my comfort zone.

Most importantly, the evening reminded me of something far more significant than whether a particular club is my personal preference: I love my grandson, and I want him to be happy living authentically as himself. Whether he is gay or anything else, he is still the same grandson I have always loved. And for that reason alone, I am glad I went.“
