This little spot is a doughnut shop feel, but I was on the hunt for chicken and waffles. I ended up getting 1 waffle and some of the juiciest fried chicken pieces I've ever tasted. They had a unique coconut cream sauce that was for the waffle. It was so good. If I am ever in San Diego again I would love to go back. There wasn't any room to sit and eat inside so I ate in my car.
I have been going to this Donut Star for many years and as the years pass, other donut brands pale in comparison. This Donut Star uses only real, traditional ingredients and fried in the traditional way, making the best donuts in San Diego. I used to go now and then for a treat or dessert, but now I pick up a few donuts every time I'm nearby, even if it's several times per week. I came here many times when I was younger and started craving sweets again. The place is quite clean, a bit dark but it wasn't that bad. The donuts are really good, I got this maple split with cream in the middle. I bought two, one chocolate and one maple for a total of 5 bucks. The owner was really nice and quick service. It brings back memories.
