In the heart of the Mission District. The food was exceptional. It felt like my abuelita was making it in the back. Simple, but very, very good, especially on a cold day. We got Revueltas (pork + cheese), cheese only, and the chicharron (pork only) pupusas with the amazing rice and beans. We also ordered a side of fried plantains, which was enough for 3-4 people. Being greeted when you come into a restaurant is a delight. But when you're greeted into a restaurant that feels like a home the experience is entirely different. La Santaneca de la mission has a calm homey atmosphere that feels like you're being hosted at someone's grandmothers house. This place was delicious. I was traveling and exploring this area and is in a part of San Francisco that looks a little sketchy. But as long as you're minding your own business you should be good. You do have to wait a little bit. Everything is done fresh. The only downside is that you can only pay cash. So make sure you bring cash.
