Get over it Golden Gate Bakery. If you're a Dan Tat fan - try Yummy Bakery. I really like their egg white Dan Tats- especially when they just come out of the oven. We also like the Pineapple BBQ bun. When you're in the city and am in CT, give them a try.
The new generation Chinese bakeries like 85 Degrees can't hold a candle to old school spots like Yummy. Whenever I'm in SF, this will be one of my go-to dessert spots. Remember - in Chinatown, if the awning is old, there's a good chance the food is great. BB

Great selection for great prices, but not super differentiated from other Chinese bakeries I have been to. The pastries were high quality and the woman who helped me was super nice. I got an egg yolk custard tart, an egg white custard tart, and a pineapple bun. The egg custard tarts were good, though the crust was more like shortbread and not very flaky which I prefer.
