Hachi Ju Hachi Reviews
Best Japanese restaurant in the bay area. You got to try the Thur dinner - fresh fish from Japan. Ask for “chef’s selection” no menu free style dinner to get the best from the chef. We have been here 20+ times in the last five years.
We had the Kaiseki experience at Hachi Ju Hachi, and it was exceptional. Our table was in a small room next to the kitchen, connected by an open pass-through where Chef Suzuki prepared parts of our meal and engaged with us throughout the evening.
Every course was beautifully presented and delicious. The smoked cod was a standout, even for someone who doesn’t usually enjoy cod. The aged gari, miso soup, and a snapper soup with matsutake mushrooms were all excellent.

**Pay no attention to the close-minded, 1 star reviews. We all know some people can be high-maintenance and too hungry.**
Came for dinner; stayed for Suzuki, Kim, and memories! We’ve never been to Japan, nor have we ever dabbled in traditional Japanese fare. And yet we were incredibly blessed to have our first experience with Suzuki and his entire team at Hachi Ju Hachi.

Hachi Ju Hachi is a long-standing favorite restaurant for many, offering traditional Japanese cuisine with a focus on sharing their culture through food. The menu features a variety of dishes, including the popular box salmon sushi and other authentic Japanese flavors. The restaurant also offers set menus tailored to the number of people in a group, providing a selection of their best creations. Customers appreciate the sake menu and the knowledgeable staff who provide great recommendations. Chef Suzuki is a master chef, and the staff is known for being accommodating and friendly. However, some diners found the flavors lacking in variety and depth, with dishes tasting too similar and lacking seasoning. Despite the cozy and inviting atmosphere, some felt that the food needed more exciting elements to enhance the overall dining experience. The restaurant has a homey environment with warm decor and a tidy, open kitchen, making it a pleasant place to enjoy a meal, although it is not very busy. Reservations are recommended due to the small setting, and while the food is generally very good, some diners noted that it can be a little pricey for the homey experience.
