“Ok so I'm guessing if you go early before the dinner rush on Fridays you'll get better service, also it seems they have music on Thursday's so maybe consider that if you're able to. The upstairs terrace is the place to be. I really enjoyed the atmosphere especially the vault bar and the outside balcony lounge/terrace. The food is pricey but its the ambiance your paying for. Oh I also recommend the big bloody!”

They even stored our pizza and ice cream cake leftovers for us while we went next door for a movie! “Armitage wines offers a truly outstanding experience. It is not just the great history of the estate which was formerly owned by Alfred Hitchcock, but the delicious and high quality wines that you can sample in this amazing setting. The current owners are very welcoming and attentive and especially dedicated to creating a great tasting experience for their guests. We spend a whole afternoon trying the different wines and I have to say it is rarely the case that I am as pleased with the sampling as I was at Armitage.Next to this, the vineyard offers amazing views. Tucked away in the redwood trees you can see for miles while overlooking the grapes from the top of the estate. When the sun sets in the afternoon, it makes for an amazing play of light and shadows.We truly loved visiting this place and will definitely come back. “I used Lalita's Hanloh catering service for an event with 100 hungry cyclists & volunteers this past weekend and it was a hit!! We enjoyed flavorful Thai iced tea, which Lalita was so generous to bring both Almond milk & Half/Half for those who didn't drink dairy. Everyone demolished the vegetarian spring rolls, which were cut to smaller pieces so that more people could try it. Her portions were full to the brim so I was very happy because the guests came back in waves and the last group that pedaled in were still able to enjoy hot, delicious food. The big hit was the Laotian Bean thread noodle salad full of hearty mushrooms and tofu. I served mainly vegetarian / GF to accommodate the largest spectrum of dietary constraints. The green chicken curry was amazing as was the Basil fried rice with giant puffy tofu. Lalita was amazing to deal with and really knows her portion sizing (more is better) but I am super happy. She was able to print and make little food labels and ingredient list for each dish so that people didn't have to ask or wonder what they were eating. It was fabulous. Serving spring rolls can be tricky because they like to stick to each other, but she put layers of parchment between each so they were perfect. I will definitely use her services again! The flavor profiles and herbs are authentic and wonderfully presented. Thank you, Lalita!!”

“So dang good! We got the red curry and the fried rice, both GF and so so good. The curry was the perfect balance of spicy and sweet. And you can get items from the place next door, which is very convenient for kids. We got them a pizza and got to have Cambodian food for us!”

“Wow! Can’t believe I’ve never been here. 🤯 We don’t get Chinese food very often and have tried a couple of other places in town, but this is my new favorite.

We placed a takeout order and the woman who answered the phone was friendly and helpful. She knew the menu and could tell me which items were GF (even double checked with the kitchen) As someone with food sensitivities, it’s much appreciated.

Prices were fair and the food was really good!

“I’ve been coming here since 2003 when I was in high school. I now live in Atlanta. However, this is the ONLY place I make sure to eat when I come back to the Santa Cruz area.”

“Got onion with jalapeño cream cheese and garlic bagel with veggie cream cheese. Mostly good but had large cheddar cheese chunks in the the jalapeno cream cheese for some reason. Felt weird , threw them away. we like the cream cheese bit dense, it was liquidy. Also it would be nice if they cut the bagels in half, easier to eat em.”

“For Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz this place is super legit. I got the soon tofu stew and it was accurate and very good. I’m comparing this restaurant with the Korean restaurants in Sunnyvale and this place holds up well. The kimchi was trash though so it would be nice if they got better quality.”

“Everything. It’s perfect. The redwood sandwich co. That’s what’s on my mind Facebook. There’s a few places in town I will always visit. If you haven’t been here yet, you’re not trying hard enough. You’re hungry, you need a sandwich that feels like a sandwich. You don’t want one of those wimpy limp sandwiches that you find for $5. You know the ones, with the iceberg lettuce and the bread that tastes like nothing. You want a MANS SANDWICH. You’re not walking around on your twinkly toes. You might wear a tutu, but that doesn’t define your food desire. That’s right. You want mouth feel. You want to put it in your mouth and not talk for at least 10 minutes. You want food that makes everything stop and take pause. You’re grown, but this sandwich makes your hands look like a child. You’re ready to eat. And eat you shall. That tri tip sandwich is dripping with goodness. It’s a feast between two slices of bread. The thanksgiving sandwich makes you wish you spent your holiday here. Pair that with their soups that don’t quit, or their Mac and cheese that stops the world, you’re in food coma and all you’ve done is smell it. If you’re lucky, you’ll make it there when they have a pork belly special. It will turn you. You won’t know what hit you. But you’ll spend the month dreaming about that sandwich. You think you took a nap, but really, you closed your eyes to re live the feel of that sandwich in your hands, and no one had to know that you woke up eating your pillow. It’s ok, your secret is safe with me. Treat yourself. You deserve this.”

“I only get takeout from the buffet here and it is perfectly good. I think it's on par or better than Panda, so I like it! And a good price too! Just under $15 for a two-item meal + rice or chow mein. The servings are big, so I was able to eat that $15 meal over two meals. Service was great! They are nice people :)”

“The food was very good. My 8 and 14 year old ate until they had their fill. They serve family style so they are big portions for a family of 4-6 to share. We got a rice dish, noodle dish and 2 chicken with vegetables dishes but different flavors. We had to take some home.

Parking: It is behind the restaurant.

Kid-friendliness: The waiter is friendly and patient. The cook is also friendly, especially when my son greeted her. Serve family style dishes.”

“We love going to Laughing Monk…whether it is a dinner out with the kids or a date night for a cocktail & good convo at the bar, they always seem to deliver exactly what you need in the moment. The environment, patrons, and staff are bright spots bringing a sense of community even amongst strangers. Everyone who works there does it with a smile on their face; it is obvious that great service is a priority. We’ve particularly appreciated running into Ava in the front who always greets us immediately with enthusiasm and a warm sense of hospitality…setting the tone for what is always an amazing evening ahead!”
