“Pho & Bun is hands down one of the best spots for Vietnamese comfort food in San Jose. I've been here a few times now, and it never disappoints. Their bun dishes are also a standout! The grilled pork is tender and perfectly seasoned, and the veggies are crisp and fresh. Portions are generous, and everything is plated beautifully.

“Good location with good food. The hotpot soups we have are great! We have 3 different soups in one pot. We have buffet for $35 for Friday dinner, which is a good price. It is a busy restaurant so go there early, otherwise you’ll have to wait in line.“

The restaurant itself looks pretty rundown, however, with a lot of the decor being leftover pieces from the thai restaurant that occupied this space several years prior to Pho Lan. The ceiling also has a lot of visible mildew and sealant or something spread around that makes it look like it's in the process of being renovated, and the overall atmosphere is slightly dull. Other than that, however, it's quite clean. Staff was super friendly, however, and service was fast since there was only one other person other than myself there at the time as it was a weekday. “We always enjoy dinner at Olive Garden. Recently we were here with a group of people and everyone liked the experience.
Breadsticks are always a good idea! We also had various Dips for the bread sticks. In appetizers we had Spinach Dip which was tasty and good quantities too.
Two of us shared an entre of Make your own Pasta. By the way, if you are planning to share it, it's better to tell them while ordering so they will bring it in separate plates.
Service was good even though it was a busy day. However out of 10, only 2 people were coming in another car and they were a few minutes late to the restaurant, others were all present but we still had to wait for them to get a table. So just a heads up for your reservations, that entire party should be present at the restaurant on time.“

Anyway, I got the chicken with noodles and the tofu, wood ear mushroom, and cucumber appetizer. The appetizer was really refreshing and citrusy. The entree was really good. The noodles and veggies were served in their own bowl and the chicken and peanuts were served on the side with its green onion/ginger/garlic garnish. You’re able to add your own sauces to your soup. The sriracha and other sauces were off to the side but the chili oil was at the table. Putting everything together was its own unique experience. I enjoyed the different flavors and my overall dine-in experience.

The restaurant was pretty clean and quiet. You can be seated for dine-in or order at the front. Staff was helpful and shared the most popular items.

“They’re reliable! Been going here for about 8 years now. It seems to be ran by a Chinese couple there, very kind folk. Always a smile on their face when I see them. It’s a super no-frills hole-in-the-wall call—ahead type dealio. Our regular items are:

1. Beef chow mein
2. Beef or house chow fun
3. Fried Rice
4. Beef and Brocolli
5. Sweet and sour pork
6. Fried pork wontons
7. Shrimp egg foo young - recent pick-up

& some refrigerated Dr. Pepper cans! Call ahead about 15-20 minutes and they’re always pretty good about getting done by then. Sometimes I wait a little extra but it’s because they’re a bit busy for dinner time.“

In spite of inflation, their prices are still very reasonable especially the lunch specials. Taste and quality have improved dramatically for a joint like this.

Inside the dine in options are limited — just a few small tables usually 1 or 2 people in a rush. Most of us take to go.

“I'm currently getting over a cold and needed some hot soup for lunch. I've driven past this place for the past year but never made the effort to come. I decided to change that today. The outside can be a little easy to miss as it's tucked away in an open strip mall, but parking is ample.

I was immediately seated as it was really packed for the lunch hour. The menu isn't huge on variety but in a good way. Too many restaurants try to pack too many items in, but this restaurant knows its identity and what they're good at. They stick to the classic Vietnamese dishes with little to no frills. I ended up with a bowl of beef pho with the rib bone. The food came out surprisingly quick which was excellent for those on a time crunch. The soup was flavorful and hot. They give you a good amount of meat and noodles. Side note - a lot of other pho places have been skimping on noodles lately.

Overall I was really impressed with the level of service and food. I would definitely be back to try other dishes. I was suggested to try the grilled chicken rice dish and the bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup). The decor is also really cute and trendy with a really laid back vibe. I definitely recommend it to anyone in the area for some good classic Vietnamese food.“
