As I frequent this place often I know the rules for drinks in a bar; and upgrading from a soda to a beer; regardless if you're in a pool league or not, isn't a possibility. You order a drink and are then able to get that same drink a second time for free. So no, not on any bar on earth would a bartender give you a free beer, which is what he was asking for, in exchange for buying a soda. Secondly, what bar have you ever gone to where you don't have to put a card down to start a tab for $7.00 tacos TO LEAVE OPEN, or close out your tab immediately. And then he literally screamed in her face at the bar. Before you critique or criticize someone take a look at what role you played in the whole interaction. Which was completely inappropriate and unnecessary. I'm not sure where he's been going out to drink, but I'd say that the rules for starting a tab and bogo drinks are pretty universal. “My fiance brought me here after a Google search and it's some of the best Mexican food we can get in Denver. Plus it is really affordable so we are able to leave a bigger tip. Our son loved it too. “I have been coming to this restaurant since I was a young girl, 30+ years and I absolutely love the food. Unfortunately, in the last 10 years, the service has started declining. One of my favorite things to order are the guacamole tostadas, but they can be very inconsistent with quality and quantity of toppings. Must get with taco sauce (very spicy). Take out orders have always been a frustration because of missing items ordered and with lack of quality with the appeal of the meals. It sounds like I’m not talking highly of this restaurant, but I do love the food. I’ve done lots of traveling and no Mexican I’ve had compares to this place. The service is just frustrating at times. Must have items are the stuffed sopapillas (love with ground beef and potato or ground beef with bean), crispy chile rellenos with vegetarian chili and the guacamole tostadas with taco sauce in the side. The Fideo is also really good as one of the sides. It’s a love hate relationship, but I will always be a loyal customer. It’s just unfortunate that past experiences dealing with the staff and inconsistent orders can make me avoid going when I’m just not in the mood for that.Vegetarian options: You can order pretty much any of the meals without the meat. If you get beans, ask specifically for the vegetarian beans or black beans. They have a vegetarian chili, which is amazing!Parking: There are 5 spots available in front of the west side entrance 2 of which are handicap and 1 takeout. Was gonna eat at our usual spot Bread and Deli in kukui grove (their clam chowder bowls for 8$ is so good) but they were closed (everything closes super early on Kauai aside from all the tourist spots in Kapaa) we settled for this Mexican food truck and it was really good. 18$ is a little steep for me but it is in kapaa and a big portion. The chimichanga was huge and I always love having something fresh to go with it as all the meat beans and rice can be heavy. On top they put lettuce, tomatoes some guacamole cheese and sour cream. The beans on the side were a little bland and the rice is well, rice. The meat was very tender and all in all good. I was surprised that they didn't have horchata, my boyfriend and I always look forward to trying new horchatas from different Mexican eatery's so we were a little bummed out about that. Since Kapaa is a busy road and it's kind of off the main road it's a little hard to find parking. I think there was a parking lot across the street but hard to tell, we just pulled over on the side of the food truck. The server was very nice and their menu was displayed on the side of the truck which I love. I always have to visually see what I'm getting so there's no surprises when I receive the food!“

“Very good, family-owned small restaurant! The environment is welcoming and cozy, and the service is always really good. The food is phenomenal. I always start my meal off with a mora (blackberry) juice con leche. They have a ton of flavors to pick from. From there, I get my main dish which is usually the Calentao special (chicken, rice, avocado, beans, and egg), but if I can't decide on what to get the La Chiva Picada is always a safe bet since it's like a charcuterie board/ sampler with all of their best menu items. They have these boards for a single person, or for two (a group of 4 could easily share this). Keep in mind there is an automatic service fee of 18% included on each bill. I didn't realize this for the first few times I went and tipped ~40% lol. even with a ridiculous tip, it's still so worth it and I'm sure the workers appreciate the love.
