“If you had asked me earlier this week where I’d be having Friday dinner, I had planned to be at a coastal favorite spot in Charleston, SC. Instead, a change of plans landed us in the charming little town of Paonia — and, much to my surprise, in the middle of what turned out to be a wonderful little foodie haven.

Kissflower was an unexpected jewel. The melon bowl was phenomenal — fresh, yet elevated by a subtle hint of mint that made every bite feel bright and unexpected. The pork belly over sweet potato mash was excellent, but the charred dates accompanying it - oh my!! - they completely stole the spotlight. Rich, caramelized, and perfectly paired, they were one of those small details that make a dish truly memorable.

The steak was expertly seasoned and served alongside house-cut French fries that were perfectly crisp.

And then there was the setting — dinner against a backdrop of Colorado mountains with live music. It was the kind of meal that makes you grateful when plans don’t work out exactly as expected.

Charleston may have been the original destination for Friday dinner, but Paonia — and Kissflower — gave it some very unexpected competition.”

“Really good beer. We had the cherry saison, north fork ipa, and black ipa. Usually we get wine when we are in Paonia but stopped here this trip. We will be back in the future and I highly recommend.”

Our first visit to the winery was charming and very informative because Alfred epitomizes both of those qualities. The first sip of wine (Tempranillo) introduced us to the realm of fine wines and refined tastes which has made us more discerning wine drinkers. Picking up wine at the winery is always a special occasion. A bottle off the shelf at your wine shop will also provide a feeling of satisfaction, gratitude, and appreciation for a well crafted wine. It is reassuring to know that this is a father/son operation; the future looks good.”

“Thanksgiving was absolutely fabulous! Food was so good and so much of it. $30 each included the whole meal with deviled eggs, salads, wine, and dessert. You certainly can't beat that. And the Aviance is really great especially looking out the windows at the snow covered mountains and the snow hanging from the trees in town. Kudos to June, the owner for a superb job.”

“Root and Vine was recommended to me by friends. The outdoor seating and views of the snow capped lamborn mountains were only the start of the magnificent experience. We started out with a wine tasting. The wines are on the dryer continuem and I am a sweet wine person but I found several wines that I really enjoyed, very crisp and light. For an appetizer we shared bruschetta which was amazing with such magnificently paired flavors it was hard to say which was my favorite. I then had an incredible sirloin burger(so good). I ended my meal with the most delicious chocolate cake, yummy. The presentation of food was top notch. This is a must visit spot along your route or as a destination. You won't regret your decision.”

“The waitstaff is phenomenal. Their margaritas are super. The food is good Tex-Mex. Chips & salsa excellent & it's very clean inside. The bathrooms are dated, but also clean! The ceviche & guac salads are both yummy. Is everything perfect? No, but it's perfect for me in this magical town!!”
