We were in town from NY with our 3 year old, we got a pizza and $25 worth of pastries from the shop. We sat at the tables out front and started to eat some pizza from a restaurant next door and then we were going to eat our pastries. A girl from the counter came out stated we couldn’t eat pizza at the tables because “health dept codes”. Must be health dept only allows you to eat pastries at those tables. Libby’s Italian Pastry Shop and Italian Ice is a well-loved spot in New Haven, known for its delicious treats and nostalgic atmosphere. Visitors often praise the amazing flavor of the cannoli, which is a favorite among many. The shop offers a great selection of pastries, including seasonal specialties and cookies, as well as a full coffee menu. The Italian ice is also highly recommended; it is made without milk, providing a fresh and natural fruit taste that stands out from regular ice cream. Prices are considered affordable, making it a good place to enjoy authentic desserts without spending much. The location is convenient, especially after visiting nearby pizza places like Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and Sally's Apizza. However, some customers have experienced inconsistent service, such as rushed staff or closures without notice. A few reviews mention less satisfying experiences with certain items like tiramisu and cannoli, citing issues with freshness and presentation. Despite these rare concerns, Libby’s remains a popular destination for local residents and visitors seeking quality pastries and Italian ice.
