Excellent Laotian food at very reasonable prices. I've been here several times and it has never disappointed. I even prefer it to its sister restaurant Tip Khao, which is older and better established (and also very good). This place is more creative and has flavors that are closer to what you'll find in East Asia. Overall, one of the very best restaurants in DC in terms of price/quality ratio.
The pork skewers were an absolute smash; silky curry was also a hit. Very fair prices, too.
The food was amazing! I ordered the Gaeng Dang Puu (crab curry essentially) and my girlfriend Pad See Saw (chicken and thick noodles) and Thai tea Everything tasted great. The Gaeng Dang Puu was a richl crab curry dish with some lychee mixed in to create a savory-sweet combination. My girlfriends See Saw chicken and noodles had thick noodles in tender chicken in a slightly sweet sauce. The portion sizes were excellent given the price and will definitely return!

Baan Mae offers a strong, trendy vibe with DJ music and a designer touch on each dish. The menu features crispy jaew bong wings fried to perfection, just a little too sweet, and rich red curry with tender brisket. Appetizers like Hua Pii and Sakoo standout, as does the Gaeng Phed crab curry praised for its impressive curry. Pad See Eaw is a play on Pad Thai, better than the original. Service is excellent and cocktails are great. Tapioca pearl dumplings had a texture that was not my favorite.
