About L'Avant-Garde

L'Avant-Garde offers a refined and sophisticated dining experience, combining French culinary techniques with high-quality American ingredients. The restaurant features creative cocktails and dishes like crab tartare, seared duck breast, scallops, and crème brûlée, allowing guests to enjoy a touch of French elegance in the heart of DC. The interior decor is elegant, and upon arrival, guests are greeted warmly and promptly shown to their tables. The staff is accommodating, especially for those with dietary restrictions. The starters are generous and delicious, and entrees such as filet mignon and branzino are perfectly seasoned with delightful sauces. The soup served is often hot and flavorful, and the duck breast is noted for its smoky seasoning. The prix fixe menu is innovative, delicious, and fairly priced, with highlights including lobster and green salad, and the bread and butter service is exquisite. While the desserts like pavlova and crème brûlée are enjoyable, some find they could benefit from a richer, darker chocolate element. The restaurant's recent staff changes have improved the service quality, and the manager regularly visits tables to ensure satisfaction. Overall, L'Avant-Garde remains one of the best options for a luxurious night out, with many guests eager to return.

The best French restaurant in town. Great service and presentation as well. The ambiance is really nice too - it’s classy and professional.
just superb. The service was amazing- friendly, attentive, and great recommendations. The restaurant accommodated food allergies with no issues whatsoever. The meal was great- everything we ordered delicious. We'll be back! Also- I highly recommend the hamachi ceviche, it's insanely good.
Just blew my mind how superb the execution of the combination of flavors was in the dishes that we had. Sat across from a real fireplace in a comfy booth. Service was excellent. The only problem was a couple at the bar who kept raising their voices and then using profanity later in the evening that really put a damper on our enjoyment of the evening.
