Utamaro Sushi Bar in Punta Gorda is described as the best sushi around. The sushi chef is amazing, offering different rolls than generally found at other sushi places, with some rolls that melt in your mouth. Service is always top notch, very attentive and friendly. The restaurant has a great atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff, and all the food ordered was wonderful. A party of 8 ordered different appetizers and rolls, including the Mango Roll and the Lion Roll, and everything was excellent. An Omakase was served at the counter with about ten different dishes, all excellent, coming close to Michelin starred sushi restaurants. The meal was $100 each with tax and tip, but a bargain compared with Tampa, St. Pete and NY. Both experiences were great, with prompt and friendly service and really tasty food. The bill was a little high but still a pretty good value for the money, and specials are offered. The Punta Gorda location delivers the same fresh sushi, excellent food, and outstanding service as the Sarasota restaurant under the same ownership. This Japanese restaurant has successfully mimic the Japanese street food scene, with a surprisingly good menu with unique offering, all very well prepared. A treasure!
