“This review is long overdue and I've been slacking. I cannot gush about this place enough! I heard about maman opening up before it was actually opened. Stoked about it because it's originally a NYC spot. And we all know NYC has some of the best eats!!!

Went during first week after it opened in Feb 2024 because coincidentally I was in Wynwood for something else. Had to stop in to snag some coffee and their Dark Chocolate Orange Cubed Croissant. Absolute heaven. The cubed croissant was perfectly layered and fun to eat. The filling was just the right hint of sweetness without being overly indulgent.

The ambiance is everything. I walked in and was immediately transported to a cute French cafe. The decor is heavenly. They thought of every little detail from the space, furniture, lighting, dishware, glassware, wallpaper and presentation on every level. It's super charming. I loved it so much I had planned a girls brunch the following month in March. We couldn't wait!

Brunch day came and my girlfriends fell in love with the space just as much as I did. They don't take reservations, first come first serve. So we arrived on a Sat morning as soon as they opened and were seated right away. Had a bit of everything. We had a variety of cocktails, because brunch. Sangria Tropicale was yummy. The Everything Croissant & Salmon Sandwich and Eggs Ratatouille is so damn good. My girls enjoyed the Croque maman but it was too much for me, too much cheese and way too rich.

We noticed our server wasn't dressed like the rest of the staff so we asked him about it. Turns out our server was also the owner, Ben. That says everything about the owner that they are willing to jump out there and help their team and do the work. Ben was awesome! He was incredibly kind and so very humble. He told us that he moved to South Florida from NYC and planned on opening several other maman locations. I love everything about maman so I'm so happy for their success! We had a lovely brunch experience and I would highly recommend. We even got a selfie with Ben. Such a cool guy! Thanks for the hospitality Ben. Sorry for this super late review. Lol.

I was at maman this past weekend after the South Florida Seafood Festival. I told hubby since we were in the area, we had to stop by maman which was right around the corner. Literally made it there 10 minutes before closing and Yann was kind enough to accommodate my order for coffee and pastries, whatever was left. Haha. We got a Honey Lavender Latte, Espresso d'Orange, Kouign maman and Banana Walnut Bread. The Kouign maman is KING!!! I am obsessed with peeling the layers like a sideways fruit roll up. The flavor and caramelization was absolute perfection. Dare I say it's even better than Dominque Ansel's Kouign Amann which is the first time I ever had this pastry. OH EM GEEEEE!!! Don't skip on this. Next time I will stock up. Lol. Banana Walnut Bread was just ok, quite dry and not very moist as I had hoped.

“First time here. Wonderful authentic food. Great staff, very welcoming to out-of-towners. Walked us through the menu and guided us to some amazing dishes. Will definitely be back next time we are in town. Try the Cuban sandwich, of course! The pork was lean, the flavors all blended together great, and with some crystal hot sauce, perfection! Erica had the ground beef sandwich which is a Cuban taken on sloppy joes with raisins and olives, absolutely delightful with their “pink sauce” garlic, spicy deliciousness. I ordered the beef sausage bowl with grits (for me), the catfish bowl with grits and eggs (for my husband), a side of smothered chicken, and French toast—because, why not indulge? My husband and I shared the chicken and French toast, and even after everyone dug in, we still left behind enough food to feed three to four people. The portions are no joke—come ready!

The food? Flavor-packed. The catfish was a tad salty, but not enough to stop my husband from clearing his plate. The sausage was decent, but those grits—creamy, cheesy, and savory—were next-level good. The French toast had a perfectly crisp edge and just the right amount of sweetness. Our drinks—both the tea special and a custom tea mix—were sweet at first, but after letting the ice melt a bit, they hit that perfect, refreshing balance.

And let’s talk about service—Jeniyah (I hope I spelled her name right!) was an absolute gem. She was so sweet, constantly checked in on us, reassured us that our food was on the way, and apologized for the short wait—which, honestly, wasn’t bad at all considering how many of us there were. To top it all off, the chef came out to personally greet us and ask how everything tasted. That kind of hospitality goes a long way.

The ambiance was charming and cozy, with vintage touches like an old-fashioned pay phone, record player, and classic tea sets that made the whole experience feel like a hidden gem. Now although you can dine-in, this is more pay for what you want at the register and everything comes in a To go bag at your table. I didn’t mind that because it made it easy for taking left over home but it didn’t seem very welcoming to sit and eat.

Upper Tea isn’t just a meal—it’s a moment. From the grits to the heartfelt hospitality, this place is a must-visit. Bring your appetite and your friends—you’ll leave full in every sense of the word.“
