Tight Tacos Kaimuki is a casual Mexican restaurant known for its variety of tasty taco options. The menu features an array of fillings, including shrimp, chicken, carnitas, and carne asada, all served on fresh hand-pressed tortillas. Customers can choose between crunchy shell or soft street-style tacos. The restaurant also offers a molcajete filled with pickled jalapeños and carrots, along with two types of scratch-made salsa for added flavor.
Recent reviews highlight the food quality, especially the shrimp tacos, praised for their best flavor profile with crunchy cheese and a creamy orange-colored sauce. The carnitas plate is noted for its generous portion and crispy, flavorful meat. While some found the chicken and raja tacos a bit lacking in flavor, the overall opinion is that Tight Tacos Kaimuki delivers solid, satisfying Mexican cuisine. The $3 street tacos on Tuesdays are particularly popular, making it a great deal for customers. Many mention that the salsa is always fire and that the tacos remind them of the taco trucks back home, with some suggesting the beans could be cooked a little longer.
The restaurant's atmosphere is described as a "sort of a hole in the wall" with a small but adequate dining space, featuring around 25 seats and 5 high-top tables. The service is efficient, with customers ordering at the counter and having their food brought to them. The staff is welcoming, contributing to a laid-back yet vibrant vibe.
Overall, Tight Tacos Kaimuki stands out as a popular local spot for authentic and delicious Mexican fare, focusing on fresh, high-quality ingredients and providing a pleasant dining experience. It’s especially recommended for Taco Tuesday and for those craving flavorful tacos, burritos, and traditional Mexican beverages like horchata and hibiscus water.
