“A Must-Visit Poke Spot
I’d been looking forward to visiting this place for three days, and it was worth the wait. If you're exploring this part of the island, this spot is a must-visit. Just remember to plan your day around it, as they're only open from 11 am to 4 pm. You might want to skip breakfast so you can really enjoy your meal!
Easy to Find, Easy to Park
The restaurant is about a 16-minute drive from downtown Honolulu. While it's a bit tucked away, finding a parking spot is a breeze—they have a large parking lot, which is a big plus. The moment you walk in, you'll notice how incredibly clean it is. This instantly gives you peace of mind, especially since you’ll be enjoying fresh, raw ingredients.
Friendly and Helpful Service
The staff was great, and the cashier was very kind and patient with my questions. She was so dedicated to helping me that she asked her team for more details about the ingredients to make sure her answers were perfect.
The Food: Unforgettable Poke
I ordered a poke bowl for $16, which lets you choose two different types of poke. I went with the spicy ahi tuna with masago and the traditional Hawaiian poke. I also added some delicious toppings like seaweed salad, dried cod (Taegu), and pickled ginger for just $1 each—a deal that’s definitely worth it.
The portion size is huge, weighing over a pound, and the presentation was beautiful. The flavors were incredible—complex and layered. The seaweed brought a taste of the sea, the pickled ginger added a tangy kick, and the spicy tuna was perfect. The Taegu, a local dish with Korean roots, gave the bowl a savory, chewy texture that made it even better.
For a drink, I chose a local Hawaiian Sun juice. It’s a great option with natural flavors, but if you want to balance out the richness of the poke, a simple water works best.
The poke bowl here is one of the most flavorful and satisfying I've had on Oahu.
A Treat to End the Meal
I also tried the shave ice with mochi, vanilla ice cream, and condensed milk. While I found it a bit too sweet for my taste (which is pretty common for local desserts), the coconut banana flavor was amazing. The small size is big enough for two people, so consider sharing it. Even if you're not a shave ice expert, this is a great place to try it.
I spent $19 poke with add ons +1.5 drink + 11 shave ice with-add ons
Unfortunately if you need to use the restroom that do not have one so make sure that you are not in a hurry and not need one .“

“Their portions are worth more than 5.00. Food and smoothies are delicious. Their dole pineapple whip is better than Dole Plantation. The staff at Ward/Kewalo basin are friendly and professional.“

“What a fantastic little place!! It's a little out of the way and tucked into a small space, but don't miss it!
The space is fantastic and well designed. Lots of colors and very bright. I felt great just being in there!!
The staff was amazing (I think it was the person that owned it). She was super nice, and very helpful! She was excited about her product and it showed. She asked me where we were from and hand a nice quick chat.
They explained that all the syrups were made by them and were natural. There was lots of fresh fruit included. It was wonderful and not overly sweet.
Price was pretty typical for the higher end shaved ice, but a good size and well worth it in my opinion.
Check this place out, I think you'll be glad you did! Thanks for the tasty treats!“
“Awesome, unique, cute store that doesn’t have the same tourist crap as every other store. Prices are ‘Hawaii’ compared to the states, but it’s nice stuff. The staff we talked with were friendly and made us feel welcome! They even recommended a new place for lunch. For us, we found a new stop on our North Shore trips each vacation!“
“It is the only store that my husband and I come back to buy again and again. you guys must try“

“This place is a serious GEM, the freshest smoothies I've ever had! Upon entering, you will be greeted with a pleasant ripe (fruit) aroma. There will always be two older ladies taking & making orders. Their menu items consist of the best kinds of blends, my fav is the mango/passion mix however, you can pick and choose. Be sure to stop by when in Honolulu.“

“Best BBQ pork banh mi sandwich!! They make everything fresh to order. Bread is crispy and airy, meat is tender/flavorful/not overtly sweet with pickled onions. We got ours with extra meat! AND YOU MUST EAT IT WITH THEIR HOMEMADE HOT SAUCE! It is potent and will make you sweat and want for more!! Recommend to call to order if you don’t want to wait there. I’ve always ordered at the counter and then go next door and get a coffee while waiting the 10-15 mins. You can also request them to cut the sandwich in half and ask for utensils (chopsticks) if needed (since all the meeeeaat would fall out as you eat.)“

“this place is a little tucked in the back behind the other carts selling every souvenir imaginable, but was 100% worth sticking it thru and trying to find them at the end. the flavors were top notch, and the lady selling them was a delight. i got some sort of gummy cubes on mine as well as this marshmallow seeming things that were fantastic. I will shout form the roof tops that Hawaiian shave ice is leaps and bounds better than any snow cone on the mainland.“

“Loved my Matcha frappe float! Some might say I'm a performative male for enjoying Matcha drinks.
My response is you need to try it before hating. Matcha is absolutely amazing, and this place lived up to my expectations.
Matcha frappe float is matcha ice cream floating on top of a matcha drink.“

“My family & I checked out this ice cream shop in the Chinatown district in Oahu, while visiting from California, and we are new fans! My two sons enjoyed a strawberry & chocolate ice cream, & I had me their delicious “black sesame” ice cream. The black sesame is a must try! All their ice cream are handmade & creamy with a lovely taste that will want you to go back for more.“

“I got the mango cheesecake ice wave—a combo of shave ice, ice cream, real mango chunks, and little cheesecake bits. It wasn’t overly sweet, which I really appreciated. The smooth ice cream and fluffy shave ice helped balance out the mango and cheesecake. The shop is small and very Instagramable, with cute little kawaii items for sale adorning the walls—like a mini hydro flask! They also have a dairy-free soft serve, which is awesome. Please note, it’s Venmo or cash only. It’s a bit pricey, but you do get a lot for it.“

“I love to walk here when I'm taking a long walk. The service is great as are the drinks. I like to get the papaya smoothie and add boba and the boba is perfectly made. It also doesn't freeze with the drink, so it's delicious to the last sip. The atmosphere is cozy as it is just an ordering window, but there is a place to sit if you're looking for a reprieve from the sun or your walk.“

“Grass shack sits right on the sand—no shoes required. They’re blending up cold pineapple smoothies, pineapple-coconut juice, lemonade, and shaved ice—simple, sweet, and perfect under the sun. The ocean’s right there in front of you. Just one thing: the location on Google Maps is wrong—it’s actually right across from McDonald’s and Eggs ’n Things, and Waikiki Circle Hotel. You just have to know where to look!“

“Perfect place to grab a bite when you’re near Waimanalo Beach. It was refreshing to see some good old school prices for some good old school food. I ate their 2 cheeseburger deluxe + drink for $10.
It reminded me of a headline I saw floating around the internet that 2 cheeseburgers is better than eating 1 cheeseburger and 1 medium fries because you double your protein while cutting own carbs and you’re more full at the end. I don’t think that’s why they made this meal deal but I’m so glad they did.
It tasted like that classic Hawai’i burger. I would get it again but I want to try their plate lunches next time.“

“Best Noodle Spot on the Island (Hidden Gem)
I found Joy Cup Noodles while searching for a place that served Dan Dan noodles, and my goodness, these were the best noodles I have had since coming back from Japan. Every bite had that perfect balance of flavor, spice, and texture that brought me right back to the authentic noodles you get overseas.
My girlfriend ordered the beef noodles, and they were just as incredible. The beef was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. But what truly made the experience unforgettable was our server, Michael. He went above and beyond from start to finish. He never rushed us, was genuinely kind, and even surprised us with complimentary ice cream and hot tea after our meal.
I also have to mention the coconut juice. They serve it in a real coconut with a straw, and it does not get fresher than that. After I finished drinking it, Michael came back and opened it for me so I could eat the coconut meat inside. That small detail made the experience even more memorable.
To top it all off, they have free karaoke and a huge screen, which makes it an amazing spot for date nights or groups. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff is friendly, and the food options are endless. It will take many visits to try everything this place has to offer.
Overall, Joy Cup Noodles is easily one of the best dining experiences I have had in Hawaii. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were all perfect. Ask for Michael, order the Dan Dan noodles, get some coconut juice, and thank me later.“
