Thelma's Restaurant | Filipino is a favorite Filipino restaurant and a hidden gem in Waipahu. Known as a hole-in-the-wall with not-so-great decor, the food makes up for it in spades. They are known for their Thelma's Special, a version of Lechon Kawali with crispy pork, tomatoes, and onions tossed in their special sauce. Other great dishes include adobo fried rice, sari sari, pancit, Gizantes, Shanghai lumpia, mixed pancit, and fried pork marinated in adobo sauce. The food is amazing and highly recommended, though service can be slow during busy periods. Food portions may seem smaller and taste different from the past, and parking can be hard to find at lunch or dinner. The atmosphere is very relaxing with good space, and prices are cheap. While the buffet set-up is no longer available, there are plenty of tables for dine-in. It is a must when visiting, reminding diners of home cooking.
