“Cool Basil has been a long time favorite of my wife and I. We hadn’t been there in a while when we stopped in for lunch today. The atmosphere was noticeably different. They were playing a funky smooth jazz music where every song sounded the same. I liked the previous light/classic rock mix much better. The staff seems to have completely changed since we were last in. We didn’t recognize anyone, whereas we were on a first name basis with much of the previous staff. The service was noticeably slower and less friendly. The food was still very good. I ordered my usual spice level 2 and it was very, very hot. Much hotter than it used to be. I’m just wondering if they are under new ownership or management because it is a very different experience from a year ago. I still recommend Cool Basil, it’s just not the familiar place that we loved anymore.“

“5 out 5⭐️ We had the calamari, and two noodle bowls. I got the spicy siracha & my husband had a garlic pesto. It was AMAZING. Will definitely go back. We went on a Monday around 12pm and they were pretty empty (as to be expected for a Monday afternoon) but still had good, timely service. We had our baby with us and unfortunately they don’t have a changing station in the women’s restroom. But otherwise- it was great! ❤️“

“We went to rolling wok in Grimes for lunch today and left with leftovers for dinner to!!! The food was so delicious, he had pad Thai (top) and I had Pad See Ew. We both got medium spice level, and it was just the perfect level for me bc I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting, the staff was amazing, friendly and informative. “I went here after losing a round at the National Debate Tournament this past summer; everything was so homey and quaint that it brought me back to peace and truthfully restored a lot of my energy and happiness after a big disappointment. One of the waitresses (whom I presume to be the daughter of the restaurant owners?) was so nice to me and my team and the entire establishment felt like family even thought it was only our first time there. The food was also great and I miss it a lot! I think about that place so much and I just had to finally leave a review after all of these months—and I'm excited to go back if I'm ever back in Des Moines!!“

“There is normally at least an hour wait but it is so worth it and I just always plan ahead when ordering from here. The food is always piping hot so you know it’s fresh! I get the dinner special with the Pad Woon Sen, pork roll and the soup! Absolutely delish and would recommend everyone try it!“
