Bluff Lake in Maquoketa is a beautiful place to eat. The location is absolutely gorgeous, especially if you enjoy being near the water. The outdoor area is really nice and makes it a relaxing place to sit and for your table inside. The atmosphere is great and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
The food itself was very good. Everything we had tasted great and you can tell they put effort into the meals.
My only downside is the pricing. It’s pretty expensive, especially for families. My 11-year-old wanted both shrimp and chicken, but the only option that included both was the $24.99 all-you-can-eat, so that’s what he had to be charged. The other options were either shrimp or chicken, not both. My daughter 6yro had chicken strips, fries, and cottage cheese, which was $13.99, plus an extra $3 just for the cottage cheese.
For a family of four, our bill came to $114, which is about a third of my paycheck, so unfortunately it’s not somewhere we can visit often—maybe once a year or less.
Overall, it’s a beautiful spot with great food and a great atmosphere. If the prices were a bit more family-friendly, we would definitely come more often.“
