I recently hosted a birthday celebration at Medieval Times Schaumburg, and it was nothing short of magical! From the moment we walked in, we were transported to another world—a medieval kingdom filled with knights, royalty, and excitement. This was the perfect venue for a group birthday celebration, and here’s why:

Immersive Experience

The atmosphere at Medieval Times is truly immersive. The castle entrance, the banners, the sounds of trumpets—it all makes you feel like you’re stepping into a living, breathing medieval story. We were greeted by the knights and staff as we entered, setting the stage for an epic evening. Even the décor and costumes added to the authenticity, making it easy to forget you were in suburban Schaumburg and not in a faraway kingdom.

Amazing Group Dining

The four-course feast was one of the highlights of the night! It’s served without silverware (a fun, authentic touch) and features hearty, delicious dishes like roast chicken, BBQ ribs, potato wedges, and corn on the cob. Everyone was so engaged, cheering on our knight (we were on the Red team!) and getting caught up in the excitement of the jousting and sword fighting. The food was served promptly, and there was plenty of time to savor it while soaking in the show.

Our group was on the edge of our seats the entire time—cheering, gasping, and even groaning at the tense moments. The knights really put on a show, and you could feel the competition in the air.

What made it even better was that the birthday guest of honor was recognized during the show, and they even received a birthday shout-out from the queen and the knights! It was such a fun touch that made the birthday celebration feel extra special. They also received a crown, which was a great keepsake and photo op.

The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a memorable experience. They were friendly, attentive, and really made us feel like we were part of the medieval court. They even brought out a special birthday dessert (apple pie) to the guest of honor, complete with a small celebration. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday,” which made the moment feel even more magical. The entire staff was incredibly professional and made the night run smoothly, which was especially important for a large group.

“Ive been to 2 other Chicago Ramen spots and this had the best service and atmosphere by far.

I tried the king of sea tsukemen. As its own thing it was just ok, not bad, not amazing.

I was really hoping for a fishy pork tsukemen (tonkatsu gyokai?) and what I got wasn't that. I wouldn't order it again and its unfortunate that this location doesn't do their normal menu because I would be back at this convenient location so often for their normal tsukemen. (Or gyokai, but I can dream)

Hopefully they'll move this menu to one of their northern locations where there are more nearby options!“

We started with sambussa, which came with a flavorful dipping sauce (I think it was awaze), and it was delicious! For our main meal, we got two veggie combos with injera, misir wot (spiced lentils), alicha wot (mild stew), gomen (collard greens), and cabbage, plus a side of alicha potatoes with carrots. Everything was perfectly seasoned, and the misir wot was my favorite! We nearly finished the whole platter, but what we took home was just as good the next day. One of the best parts of the experience was the Ethiopian coffee, which they served with burning incense—not only did it smell amazing, but it was also the best coffee I’ve ever had.
