“I work at a company near by and we sometimes place big orders from this location for friday lunches. It is always so good and even though its big orders, everything is always correct and nothing is ever missing! Recently I accidently made order for pick up when i meant to do delivery but I called the location and they said no problem and made the delivery themselves. The food and smoothies are always so good and fresh!!!“

“Visiting from Columbus OH, my family and I stopped here as it’s a family go to at home and fits into our plant based (vegan) lifestyle. We had a pleasant experience with the customer service and atmosphere. Jack was very welcoming and handled our rather large order with ease and speed. We had 3 smoothies, 2 avocado toast and one oatmeal bowl. Only critique I have is the oatmeal was slightly more watery than I’m used to. Anthony the owner stopped in during our stay and witness the praise I gave Jack. Clean and well kept. I hope our 2 littles didn’t cause too much a ruckus 😊“

“I go to this location quiet often, but I was extremely disappointed as well as angry with what I saw today at this location. (3/9/25 at 5:35pm) The 3 customers that were ahead of me placed their orders were first timers I found out. The young lady that was fixing their smoothies dropped a cup on the floor, picked the cup up from the floor then sat the cup to the side. As she finished one smoothie she pulled a fresh cup, then the 2nd smoothie she proceeded to pour it in the cup that she picked up off the floor. I told the young lady that took my order, so she then pulled the young to the side to tell her that I saw what she did then she looks at me and says "I'm Sorry" (I said to her): What do mean you are sorry, why would you do that, and why are you giving that to her, you need to remake that smoothie ...and guess what she did not. I'm just want to make people aware: Watch the people that prepare your sandwiches/smoothies or anything of that sort. It's not their stuff, they're not paying for it so they don't care. That was just the epitome of nasty and extremely unsanitary. She didn't have on a Tropical Cafe shirt, she had on a gray shirt, she may have been new, I'm not sure but we need to learn to do better when working with the public. Don't do things to people that you don't want done to you!!!!! FYI...the name on the ticket was: Shelia G“

What I see, week after week, is a group of young people in their 20s working incredibly hard to make this place clean, welcoming, and genuinely pleasant to be in. They move with focus, they’re kind under pressure, and they treat customers with respect even when that respect isn’t always returned (especially so!!!) That matters.

I’ve been met with warmth and professionalism so many times. Not once have I felt dismissed or rushed in a way that felt careless—only efficient, attentive, and human. These are not apathetic workers; they are diligent and trying their best in a fast-paced food service environment.

Reading through some of the negative reviews, it’s hard not to notice a pattern. Many sound less like thoughtful critiques and more like entitlement—people who believe money buys control over other human beings. There’s a certain kind of older, West Loop-nepotism energy that comes through: impatience, condescension, and zero appreciation for the labor happening right in front of them. It’s disheartening.

Anyone who has ever worked food service knows how demanding it is. The majority of the harshest complaints seem to come from people who have likely never had to do this kind of work themselves. These young employees remain composed and kind despite that imbalance, and that deserves recognition—not scorn.

I truly appreciate the Chicago team at SunLife Organics. They consistently bring a smile to my face, and they’re the reason I keep coming back—not despite them, but because of them. She informed me and asked me if I would like certain things on my funnel cake before putting anything else outside what it's served with. The Funnel Cake was fresh along with the fruit. “I really like Tropical Smoothie in Gurnee! The smoothies are fresh, flavorful, and there are so many great options to choose from — the Bahama Mama and Sunrise Sunset are my go-tos. The food is solid too; I’ve tried a few of the wraps and flatbreads and they’ve all been tasty and made to order.

“Today was my first time trying Smoothie King. I picked the Peanut Power Plus. When I substituted the nonfat milk (powder) for almond milk, I expressed my concern about my smoothie being thin/liquidity. The person who I worked with, I’m assuming the manager, assured me that it would still be thick or they’d be willing to remake it. He even added extra peanut butter. My smoothie was tasty. And although I only got the 20 oz, it was so filling, I could barely eat. 😂 That’s a good thing. Thanks for my smoothie but especially the excellent customer service.“
