“I had an engagement party for my Son and his fiancée. It was in the lawn next to our building on the lake in Chicago. A casually elegant setting. We had a lot of different food prepared professionally and I made salads, and we grilled steaks, burgers and chicken. Khmai was enlisted to do all the appetizers, some additional salads and various spreads and dips. I have Mai my approximate budget, let her know what I was preparing and planned to cook and asked her to do her best to come up with what she thought would be best as complimentary. She outdid herself. The staff is lovely to work with, helpful and genuine. My guests were blown away by the delicious and complex tastes we are not used to since most had never had Cambodian food prior. Fermented catfish dip? Wonderful, all the rolls veg or not were terrific, shrimp toast was my personal favorite, salads crisp, spicy and everything felt special and unique. Flavors so rich and vibrant felt like a special treat. It was perfect served with standard picnic fare a little elevated. The atmosphere of the party was pitch perfect, while retaining a quiet all American type picnic feel, the quality of both the food I had prepared and grilled, plus the array of flavors the appetizers added made it seem really special and definitely a treat and celebratory. It felt like someone really cared and tried to make it memorable and my guests were over the moon for this food. I would absolutely recommend dining there, we have a few times and it’s a family feeling you just can’t force or create without it being real. Thank you for your heart and talent to this wonderfully talented mother and daughter team!“

“I really appreciate how clearly the vegan or vegetarian options are listed. They are able to make a few things vegan and a few things are already vegan. Their smoked tofu, although extra to add, is really good. Not bland and mushy like many omni places. They also have a happy hour 4-6 with a few vegan options! I got the chili peanut noodles with tofu and loved it. I also got the corn fritters to start, great just the dipping sauce isn’t vegan fyi.“

“Whenever I rarely go out to ramen restaurants, I end up getting full and finishing my meal. Yet, this restaurant made my expectations skyrocket. The chicken ramen had various flavors while the broth had a bit of spice to it (no problem for me honestly). The spicy szechuan wings were unrelated to the average spicy wings. They were genuinely spicy from the tip of your tongue to mouth. The chicken and vegetable gyoza tasted good but the accompanying sauce clashed with it. At the end of it, there was a QR code to either pay the bill in full or spilt it. Would recommend and will bring my friend from Virginia here.“

I purchased the plain, ube, and pandan and my family was very happy.I spoke whom I believe was the owner and he was very knowledgeable about dietary allergies (gluten-free, dairy-free, nuts). I love that when I go there they have everything fresh and everything is in stock and if there’s a waiting time, it’s not more than 10 minutes and the cookies are amazing for dessert. I love that the food is gluten-free even the cookie!
The price is just right for lunch or dinner!

“The first time I had the food here, it was amazing. I’ve been to Che Thai about 10 times in the past five months—great service every time!

Some of my favorites are the Tom Yum soup, Basil Fried Rice, and Tom Yum Rice. The wings are good too!

There are a few women who work here, but there’s one in particular who is so nice. I absolutely love when she prepares my food—it’s always consistently good 😊.

On the flip side, the younger cooks don’t seem as passionate when it comes to preparing the food. It doesn’t quite taste the same when they’re working. Maybe they’re just getting started or aren’t fully invested yet—I’m not sure.

Overall, I’d give this place an 8/10. Thank you!

“Always delighted to find Teochew restaurants in the US and it’s always an automatic 5 stars. Double Happiness is a real no frills hole-in-the-wall serving authentic food that tastes like home. The menu is written in English, Vietnamese, Thai 🙂‍↕️, and Chinese - love to see it! The real star of the meal for me was the fried garlic oil (wish I snapped a pic)… just perfection, I kept reaching for scoop after scoop… it’s a must-add to every dish… trust.“
