The owner is a known racist and I saw roaches in their bathroom
If you have the time and appreciate good food it’s a gem settled in the neighborhood. Wonderful options and nice selection of non alcoholic hand crafted drinks of various kinds, I had the lavender lemonade. It’s first come first serve outdoor seating only. It’s dog friendly!
A great local South Loop institution with an excellent menu to choose from (both food and drink). Lots of outdoor seating as well. A classic coffee spot.

The Spoke & Bird in South Loop offers a charming atmosphere and friendly service, although the speed of service can be inconsistent. Guests have enjoyed the iced mocha and breakfast BLT, praising their quality. However, some have found the food to be overpriced, with specific meals like the classic breakfast and the overnight soaked oatmeal receiving mixed reviews. The oatmeal, in particular, was criticized for its unusual taste due to the lemon zest, lacking the expected berries or nuts.
While many appreciate the focus on local sourcing, some diners felt that the portion sizes and overall quality did not justify the higher prices. Additionally, there have been reports of unhelpful staff at the counter, which detracted from the experience for some visitors. Despite these issues, the restaurant remains a popular spot for breakfast and coffee, with hopes that improvements can be made in food quality and service efficiency. Overall, The Spoke & Bird is a place with potential, appealing to those willing to try their varied menu offerings.
