The Gin Mill | Decatur Reviews
From the appetizer to main course the food was fantastic and the waitress was superb. The spinach artichoke was some of the best we’ve ever had, we both ordered the Delmonico steaks were cooked to perfection, don’t let the prices scare you worth every penny. This restaurant rivals any from our home state of Arkansas
We had reservations for 6 at 5:30P tonight. Upon the hostess taking us to our seat she informed me we needed to be done by 7P as they had another reservation coming then. I said are you telling me we need to eat and run? She said basically yes as we only allow 15 extra minutes after 7 and then we will ask you to leave. Seriously! How extremely rude to your customers! The Gin Mill in Decatur is a historic building that offers a casual, laid-back atmosphere, making it a popular spot for socializing and watching sports on multiple TVs. The restaurant features a wide variety of craft beers and cocktails, with a strong reputation for tasty pub-style food, including wings and burgers. The staff is friendly and welcoming, providing good service that can improve with better staffing during busy times.
The menu includes a range of dishes, with some standout items like the Caesar salad, French onion soup, and burgers. Several reviews mention the restaurant's “famous” Delmonico, which was cooked perfectly but lacked flavor, and the Beef Blackstone, which was a bit too salty for some. The Chicken Cordon Bleu was tasty but slightly overcooked, and the twice-baked potato was generally well-received. The burger and brisket sandwich are also popular choices.
While some meals were underwhelming or greasy, overall, the experience is dependable and enjoyable, especially for those looking for good food, drinks, and a friendly environment. Improvements in service have been noted, and the restaurant continues to impress regulars with its atmosphere and menu variety. Whether for a casual dinner, sports viewing, or a night out, The Gin Mill remains a highly recommended spot in Decatur.
