“Nicky’s Hot Dog is a must-visit spot if you’re in the Hotel Central area for a business trip. I arrived around 11:00 am, and while foot traffic was light, parking was still scarce, possibly due to sharing with a neighboring business. The place is tiny and old, with no updates to the exterior or interior, but that’s not why you’re there. I skipped the namesake hot dog and went straight for the Italian beef sandwich.

They used to be cash-only, but now they accept major cards, which was a relief since I don’t carry cash. The workers are packed into the minuscule kitchen like sardines, but ordering is straightforward. Just tell the guy at the counter what you want, and he writes it down on paper. A couple of minutes later, your order is ready.

There’s nothing fancy about Nicky’s, so if that’s what you’re after, head to a major chain. I ordered a beef sandwich with fries and an RC Cola for around $14. The sandwich came wrapped in foil and paper, with the bottom half soaked in beef juice. The beef was perfect, the bread was soft, and the hot peppers were just right. The sandwich was delicious and paired perfectly with the golden fries and cola. I’m so glad these places still exist, and I have much respect for the workers who move at warp speed to handle the orders, especially as it got jam-packed as soon as I left.“

“I am a very huge fan of smaller scale restaurants that can be found hiding in the city. Family-owned businesses are typically the ones that have the best food because they do not necessarily look into mainstreaming menus and recipes. with smaller restaurants, you can typically find amazing price opportunities as well as some unique food that has not been released to the broad market. It almost makes locations like this become a treasure if you come across them. Huge shout-out for Lola's. Amazing dogs, burgers, shakes! give them a try when you get the chance. “First time customer. Friendly staff and clean environment. Counter seating only. Fair prices for great quality food. The fries are great! I'm usually a skin on, flaccid fry lover (no jokes, please) but the fries here are crispy and thin without being overly salted. Gyros, off the spit, was generously portioned. Jack's is a solid choice for great Chicago-stand food!“

“Don't let the overall look of this place fool you It might seem like an out of place small almost empty restaurant right next to the sidewalk, But the food is delicious, Very friendly staff of 2 at the moment. It was my First time going I had a hot dog meal with fries and a drink Hot dog was delicious. Fries surprised me VERY delicious home made fries, food was good The price was great. Service was very fast in and out within about a minute well worth a stop, I am looking forward to trying out some of their other menu items 🤤 my one and only complaint if I had one is that there is no porking available for them at the moment 😭“

Wheelchair accessibility: The entrance to the restaurant is very narrow and there is not a lot of space for a wheelchair inside but there are a few tables outside“

“The guy behind the counter was a little gruff and curt with me, but once he saw that I had my dog with me, he warmed up a bit. Otherwise, the hot dogs were tasty, but I was expecting more tots than what was served to me. Also, the way that the restaurant was shot in the photos listed online were very deceptive; way smaller space than expected, and really no place to sit and enjoy your food.“

“We recently moved to the neighborhood and noticed Hubby's after leaving the Farmers Market a few weeks ago. My husband noticed they advertised catering on their building, so we thought we should reach out for our kiddos 1st Birthday Party. They DID NOT disappoint! Marcie responded to emails promptly. She was very accommodating with adding extra food last minute (86 guests), and their hot dog cart was such a nice touch for our baseball themed party. Our guests loved the hot dogs and mini Italian beef sandwiches! We were even able to accommodate our vegan guests with hot dogs too!
