Unique and fun!The waitress was quick to seat me and take my order. Very simple no frills approach and I appreciate that. You get realness from people in these environments and not some corporate script.Food came out very timely given how many people were there. I enjoyed everything on my plate and it did taste more home style than most diners I've been. Big plus! My only preference would have been crispy vs chewy bacon. I probably could have requested it but not a deal breaker. It still has good flavor I just prefer crispy. “I've been a patron of Hacienda on First Avenue in Evansville IN for43 years! This restaurant is as close to authentic Mexican cuisine in Evansville, in my opinion.
The only reason for the 4-star rating for the atmosphere is that I prefer smaller or cozy dining areas. Being older in age, dining with families with children is difficult for my husband and I to have a conversation.
We usually start our meal with a fountain drink and chili con queso. The chips are thin and lightly salted. They are sturdy enough for the cheese dip, however. They offer two sizes of dip, a cup, or a bowl. This is nice based on what your entree will be.
We are creatures of habit with regard to our meal choices, but we always look at the wide variety of appetizers, salads, and entrées. Hacienda offers new menu items often, which our daughter enjoys trying. She has never been dissaentrée.
I highly recommend this restaurant on First Avenue as well as the east side location

“The company I work for uses Smitty's occasionally for work events. Yesterday we had a miscommunication, and when we got there to set up for our event they didn't know we were coming. Katie and the rest of the crew went above and beyond to quicly set up the private room and accommodate our 25 guests. I don't believe there is another restaurant in town that would have pulled this off for us, and Smitty's staff did it with grace and good humor. As always, the food and service were outstanding. “It’s a great place to eat .. I will say I was unhappy with service.. I booked the event room .. explain Arrival time was 815-830.. so when guest started to arrive at exactly 815 the room was not ready at all .. every table was filled with dishes. I had approx 20 people five or take I told them on the phone that morning.. they finally got 2 sets of 2 tables that comfortably was set up in the main dining room as 4 to table they crammed 10 chairs to these tables.. when I asked for another set of tables to be cleaned our server wouldn’t speak to me but rolled her eyes so I went to talk to someone else.. when they approached her with me she told me that she was my server. And she still has not started cleaning tables instead she told me there were 20 chairs total at those tables.. I had to get upset and told her we were crammed and everyone unhappy and told her I wanted 2 more tables cleaned.. PLEASE!!! Finally she did with an attitude and goin so slow like it killed her.. she was prob 25yr old .. then she sat out on her phone and I had to get up and get her if we needed drinks or anything. It would been a great night if had a good server.”

We were seated downstairs and it reminded me of a speak easy. We had chicken fried steak and turkey and dressing. Very hearty portions. The food was amazingly delicious. We will definitely go back.
