You can eat here for less than a meal at McDonald's. You can tell it's a locals spot with multiple regulars. As others have mentioned, regulars have coffee cups with their names on them. Unique and fun!The waitress was quick to seat me and take my order. Very simple no frills approach and I appreciate that. You get realness from people in these environments and not some corporate script.Food came out very timely given how many people were there. I enjoyed everything on my plate and it did taste more home style than most diners I've been. Big plus! My only preference would have been crispy vs chewy bacon. I probably could have requested it but not a deal breaker. It still has good flavor I just prefer crispy. The smoked chop had good flavor along with the eggs, potatoes and biscuit.Parking is limited but you'd expect it. It's literally in a neighborhood and across a small street to Garvin park. Everything was perfect...the river table view, ambience, Everything was going very well until a much larger group was seated beside us. Our waiter was wonderful at first, but he dumped us to spend more time with the larger group. This table was served first and waiter brought a special birthday dessert to patron at larger table. Envy!! Yes, I was a little jealous as I had made our reservations in advance, called the night before to confirm and the person told me she knew it was for a 65th birthday. Upon our arrival I suppose I expected more like a..."hello, happy birthday"! No, he must have wanted a much bigger tip even though we always tip 20-25%. The waiter was truly into the other larger table. Even the service we received back in February was far better with a wonderful and personable waitress with dark brown hair. We saw her this evening. Will ask for her next time as she has huge personality and goes above and beyond to make your experience one you will never forget. The waiter tonight lacked personality and was not attentive. “I've been a patron of Hacienda on First Avenue in Evansville IN for43 years! This restaurant is as close to authentic Mexican cuisine in Evansville, in my opinion.
The only reason for the 4-star rating for the atmosphere is that I prefer smaller or cozy dining areas. Being older in age, dining with families with children is difficult for my husband and I to have a conversation.
We usually start our meal with a fountain drink and chili con queso. The chips are thin and lightly salted. They are sturdy enough for the cheese dip, however. They offer two sizes of dip, a cup, or a bowl. This is nice based on what your entree will be.
We are creatures of habit with regard to our meal choices, but we always look at the wide variety of appetizers, salads, and entrées. Hacienda offers new menu items often, which our daughter enjoys trying. She has never been dissaentrée.
I highly recommend this restaurant on First Avenue as well as the east side location
Wheelchair accessibility: The spacing of the doors will accommodate standard wheelchairs. Neither location needs ramps.”

“The company I work for uses Smitty's occasionally for work events. Yesterday we had a miscommunication, and when we got there to set up for our event they didn't know we were coming. Katie and the rest of the crew went above and beyond to quicly set up the private room and accommodate our 25 guests. I don't believe there is another restaurant in town that would have pulled this off for us, and Smitty's staff did it with grace and good humor. As always, the food and service were outstanding. “It’s a great place to eat .. I will say I was unhappy with service.. I booked the event room .. explain Arrival time was 815-830.. so when guest started to arrive at exactly 815 the room was not ready at all .. every table was filled with dishes. I had approx 20 people five or take I told them on the phone that morning.. they finally got 2 sets of 2 tables that comfortably was set up in the main dining room as 4 to table they crammed 10 chairs to these tables.. when I asked for another set of tables to be cleaned our server wouldn’t speak to me but rolled her eyes so I went to talk to someone else.. when they approached her with me she told me that she was my server. And she still has not started cleaning tables instead she told me there were 20 chairs total at those tables.. I had to get upset and told her we were crammed and everyone unhappy and told her I wanted 2 more tables cleaned.. PLEASE!!! Finally she did with an attitude and goin so slow like it killed her.. she was prob 25yr old .. then she sat out on her phone and I had to get up and get her if we needed drinks or anything. It would been a great night if had a good server.”
